Are you a creative thinker with an eye for design Do you love using art to tell stories enhance narratives and capture attention If youre passionate about illustration layout design and digital graphics apply to be our next Graphics Editor!
What youll do:
- Lead visual storytelling: Create compelling artwork illustrations and graphics for print and online in a variety of styles.
- Enhance news & features: Work with writers and editors to design visuals that complement and elevate stories. Were looking for someone who can adapt to different styles tones and concepts.
- Design for print & web: Help shape the look of our publication from newspaper layouts to digital content. Youll create covers illustrations and comics for all of our monthly print issues along with graphic for the website as needed.
- Manage a creative workflow: Balance multiple projects meet deadlines and ensure a consistent visual standard. Youll be working on multiple projects at a time so you need to be confident you can keep yourself on track.
- Experiment & innovate: Find new ways to engage readers through creative visuals infographics and artistic storytelling. Creativity is key!
- Guide contributors: Youll lead the team of art contributors giving them assignments and instruction on what youre looking for helping them refine their craft and pushing their creative boundaries. This includes answering their questions explaining how the Nugget works offering support or guidance where needed.
What were looking for:
- Focus on digital illustrations with experience working independently within reasonable deadlines
- Strong ideation/conceptualization skills: final ideas will be approved by leadership but we want you to be comfortable bringing creative ideas to the table
- Someone who takes feedback and direction well: there are huge opportunities to grow as an artist in this role so you should be open to feedback when necessary
- Working understanding of illustrator/photoshop: we use the Adobe suite to design our print issues so you should be familiar with the language of design and have the technical knowhow to submit finished pieces
- BONUS POINTS: Understanding of basic typography including working knowledge of InDesign with emphasis on layouts
Qualifications:
- Youre a current NAIT student enrolled in classes from September 2025April 2026. This is a parttime salary position that begins August 1 2025 and ends April 15 2026. You must be enrolled in classes in both the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms to be eligible. The salary for this position is $500/month.
- Strong writing and factchecking skills
- Available for a minimum of 10 hours per week starting August 1 2025
- Previous experience with the Nugget is a bonus
