JOB SUMMARY
The Special Education Teacher creates and implements inclusive and culturally responsive lesson plans tailored to their students diverse learning needs and abilities. The Special Education Teacher establishes individualized learning goals tracks progress and documents assessments using an antibias lens. The Special Education Teacher maintains ongoing communication with families regularly updates student progress and collaborates with parents and caregivers to address behavioral concerns and support their childs holistic growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs educational programs for students formulates individual academic programs and presents these in PPTs.
- Charts graphs and collects data on student performance and behavior.
- Directs teaching of students/supervises the lunch room.
Writes lesson plans based on each students IEP.
- Designs implements and evaluates behavior management programs per the Schools behavior management techniques and procedures.
- Participate in CPI training and become certified to perform therapeutic holds on students when necessary. Must participate in periodic recertification as scheduled by the Crisis Intervention Coordinator.
- Responsible for educational and developmental assessments of students annually and as needed based on the progress of the IEP goals and objectives.
- Supervises Teacher Assistants working in the classroom.
- Writes student progress reports to be sent to the LEA and given and discussed with parents based on goals and objectives in the childs IEP.
- Maintains communication with school social worker educational coordinator therapists speech and language clinicians and occupational therapist servicing the students. Participates in weekly team staff meetings.
- Participates in team meetings to discuss students educational programs weekly.
- Orders classroom supplies and teaching materials in collaboration with the Educational Director.
- Reviews and revises curriculum used in the classroom.
- Participates in PPT meetings regarding students.
- Meets weekly with Educational Director to discuss students programs teaching techniques and other relevant matters.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Bachelors degree required Masters degree preferred. Special Education Certificate 165 or equivalent.
