Job Title: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner: Primary Care Student Health Center (PT)

Department: Student Health & Wellness

Division: Student Affairs

FLSA Status: NonExempt

Reports to: Director Student Health Center

Grade: 9

Hourly Rate: $41.81 $54.34

General purpose: Contributes to the delivery of highquality clinical services and educational programs; supports the Director in overseeing operations and developing policies and procedures that are consistent with the current standards and best practices for US college health centers; serves on campus committees and task groups

Summary of Essential Functions: The Student Health Center offers primary and preventative medical care to all students including medication management STD testing referral and specialty care and pharmacy services; provides outreach programs and consultation services as well as alcohol and other drug education.

Major role functions:

  • Support the Director in the provision of primary care services as well as full participation in the emergency response system.

  • Maintains extensive cooperative and collaborative relationships with students faculty and staff within MICA

  • Maintains active involvement in professional organizations and contributes to the field through presentations at national and regional conferences and/or research scholarship

  • Performs administrative functions

  • Updates skills as needed and recertifies as appropriate; applies evidenced based research to practice

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must adhere to the Colleges established COVID19 protocols

  • Routinely assess quality assurance and review protocols related to COVID19 testing and follow up

  • Maintain accurate records and maintain and order adequate supplies

  • Prepare operational reports and analyses

  • Identify trends and student needs and recommend appropriate programs and solutions

  • Review and update health center educational materials

  • Establish long and shortrange departmental goals and objectives and devises methods to improve the overall effectiveness of student health programs

  • Works closely with the Director of Student Counseling and the Health Promotion Educator in order to provide coordinated efforts in areas that relate to mental health physical health and other areas of wellness

  • Participate in campus outreach programs as requested

  • Maintain a high standard of professional ethics consistent with the guidelines of the state licensing board that regulates the practice of nursing care

  • Serve on administrative committees related to current practices and service delivery as required

  • Perform other related duties within scope of practice as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing is required

  • Current BLS certification

  • Active Maryland Physician Assistant License with CDS and DEA (for Physician Assistant or Maryland RN and Family or Adult CRNP licensure with Prescriptive Authority (for Nurse Practitioner) is required

  • National certification as a Family or Adult CRNP is required

  • Knowledge of developmental issues central to adolescents/young adults

  • Proficiency in the use of an Electronic Medical Record system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Maryland CDS and DEA registration

  • Experience working in a college health center

  • Significant experience as a nurse practitioner in a related field in an outpatient setting

  • Strong time management skills (organization prioritization multitasking)

  • Ability to use discretion maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Excellent dynamic communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent analytical decision making and problemsolving skills

  • Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software

  • Strong commitment to a culture of diversity equity respect and inclusion; demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds perspectives and experiences

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus (may be adjusted depending on position). As necessary the employee will be required to wear a face mask during work hours and may don and doff additional personal protective equipment as needed.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
