DSHS WSH Licensed Practical Nurse 4
Western State Hospital (WSH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse 4 (LPN4 to play a key leadership role in providing compassionate highquality mental health care. In this role you will lead and support LPNs and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) while ensuring safe and effective patient care. Youll oversee medication administration provide direct nursing care assist in crisis situations and educate both staff and patients in a collaborative healthcare environment.

Located in Lakewood Washington Western State Hospital is one of the largest psychiatric hospitals in the state providing inpatient mental health treatment for individuals with serious or longterm psychiatric conditions. Established in 1871 the hospital has a long history of serving Washington communities by offering comprehensive psychiatric care treatment and rehabilitation services. Some of what youll do:- Lead and assign tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) providing training on medication systems and patient care equipment.
- Administer medications transcribe physician orders and monitor patient conditions reporting concerns to the Registered Nurse (RN).
- Provide direct nursing care based on treatment plans using therapeutic interventions and deescalation techniques for highrisk behaviors.
- Ensure medication and treatment rooms meet safety standards checking supplies emergency equipment and proper storage of medications.
- Assist in crisis situations including patient containment Code Gray responses and applying restraints when necessary under RN guidance.
- Educate and support patients in adapting to ward routines developing life skills and engaging in treatment activities.
- Transport patients to oncampus and offsite appointments and activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and facility operations.
What were looking for:- Experience providing patient care in a mental health facility.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written to effectively interact with patients colleagues and the public.
- Proficiency in using medical equipment including weight scales lifting devices thermometers glucometers blood pressure cuffs stethoscopes and Pyxis machines.
- Ability to operate computer systems and programs including MediMAR for medication administration.
Who should apply- Professionals with a current Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- At least one year of experience working as an LPN.

- Opportunities performed onsite at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5 premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
