Department Summary

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department at the University of North Texas (UNT) is home to over 70 tenured tenuretrack and professional faculty members with more than 220 Ph.D. students over 2100 M.S. students and over 1800 undergraduate students. We offer a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering M. S. degrees in Artificial Intelligence Computer Science Computer Engineering Cybersecurity and Data Engineering ABETaccredited B. S. degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering and an ABETaccredited B. A. degree in Information Technology and a new B. S. degree in Cybersecurity. As a Carnegie R1 research institution the CSE Department is committed to conducting highimpact and cuttingedge research. The department has nearly $17M total active research grants and has had 6 NSF CAREER awardees in the past. The department hosts three research centers namely Center for Computational Life Sciences Center for Information and Cyber Security and NSF eCAT Center for Electric Connected and Autonomous Technologies. Some CSE faculty are also affiliated with BioDiscovery Institute one of UNTs four research institutes of excellence. UNT is strategically located in the vibrant DallasFort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area one of the largest and fastestgrowing technology hubs in the United States. This prime location provides the CSE department with unparalleled opportunities for collaboration with leading tech companies startups and research institutions.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish Vietnamese American Sign Language Chinese (Cantonese Mandarin and other variations) Arabic Tagalog Farsi French or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The CSE Department at UNT has multiple tenuretrack Assistant Associate Professor and Full Professor position openings. The department plans to contribute to the college priorities by hiring faculty who can strengthen or complement our existing research areas. We primarily seek candidates in research areas of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Autonomous Systems Bioinformatics/Computational Biology and Computer Architecture. Candidates are encouraged to look at our current strengths (e.g. faculty profiles) and address in their application materials how their research expertise would boost our strengths and capacity for future innovations. Our hires will also contribute to the College of Engineerings Strategic Thrust areas namely Artificial Intelligence Autonomous Systems Advanced Manufacturing and Materials and Healthcare Innovations.

Candidates for these positions are expected to develop a strong externally funded research program teach undergraduate/graduate courses in CSE mentor graduate students and provide service to the university and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate should hold a terminal degree in the discipline or having equivalent applied experience appointed to perform the responsibilities of teaching scholarship and service. Candidates who are ABD will be considered but the position requires completion of degree by date of appointment.

Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank should have a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding successful mentoring of junior faculty undergraduate and graduate students and recognized service activities. Must meet UNTs criteria for tenure at the appropriate rank.

Preferred Qualifications

We seek candidates who can strengthen or complement our existing strength research areas specifically in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Autonomous Systems Bioinformatics/Computational Biology and Computer Architecture.

For an Assistant Professor position a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing external funding and mentoring graduate students are required.

For an Associate or Full Professor position we require a sustained record of research excellence demonstrated via securing external funding for research activities providing mentoring to junior faculty advising graduate students and providing service to the university and profession.
