OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Project Accountant in Sherwood Park AB. The Project Accountant will actively processes project specific information and completes revenue recognition on a timely basis. All tasks will be completed within a collaborative team environment with focus will be placed on providing assistance to the Project Management team and the overall ability to consistently meet and exceed expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years accounting experience with a minimum 3 years in cost accounting
- Bachelor of Commerce with Accounting or relevant postsecondary education with work experience
- Knowledge of financial operational and reporting and analysis
- Comfortable with Accounting software especially in Word and Excel
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong problem solving and decisionmaking skills
- Highly organized and selfmotivated
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare invoices as per district activities and contract requirement
- Responsible for job set up control and maintenance activities once information has been provided by the Project Manager (PM)
- Month end and quarter end closing activities including open PO analysis cost accruals vendor reconciliations and variance investigation
- Research and respond to queries on job related financial matters
- Reconcile completed jobs ensuring accuracy of costs and revenues
- Maintain accounting records for individual projects and equipment
- Prepare analyze and report project financial information relating to revenue and costs
- Bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned
- Participate in operations meetings to provide guidance and feedback to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Participate in the development and maintenance of monitoring and reporting procedures
- Coordinate efforts with accounts payable and payroll to resolve project related issues as they arise
- Completing weekly collection calls to collect any outstanding invoices
- Posting deposits daily
- Report and monitor actual costs against project budgets
- Provide ongoing communication with Project Managers Site Staff and Head office regarding projects
- Provide project status and analysis information to Project Manager and Controller
- Main point of contact between Accounting department and Project Management in regards to all aspects of related project specific budgets variance analysis forecast trends commitments actual cost cost / profitability analysis and reporting
- Analysis monthly unbilled (WIP) results; percent of completed calculations to summary of forecast costs of completion
- Prepare any clearance letter required for project invoicing
- Prepare Stat Decs as required
- Complete timesheets submission job costing and provide progress updates to Project Manager
- Close out projects on a timely basis
