Job Description

TEMPORARY STUDENT SUPPORT WORKER

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites application packages from persons qualified for the position of Temporary Student Support Worker.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be available for daytoday casual replacement and longterm assignments at various school locations throughout the City of Windsor and Essex County.
  • Support teacher(s) with the preparation of learning materials necessary to assist identified students.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students by using proper lifting techniques.
  • Implement Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) in compliance with Board Policy and training.
  • Provide supervision of identified students in and around the school.
  • Support and ensure the dignity of students with their personal needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair inclusive antiracist environment for all stakeholders and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
  • To work in consultation with the schoolbased team implement and monitor programs that have been developed which support academic/cognitive skills social skills gross and fine motor abilities communication skills and vocational skills.
  • Assume other duties/responsibilities related to student needs as determined by the Principal.

Rate of Pay: $21.89 $29.91 an hour plus 4 vacation pay.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess a minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants holding certificates from an accredited college for the successful completion of the following programs:
  • Educational Assistant Diploma
  • American Sign Language and Deaf Studies or American Sign Language Interpreter
  • Developmental Service Worker
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Early Childhood Educator
  • Experience and/or other related specialized training and/or certification in field.
  • Possess demonstrable experience and competence in dealing with special needs students in a school or residential setting.
