Job Description
Assists the Ophthalmologist in the comprehensive care of patients with ocular disorders. Provides technical services required in the course of diagnostic evaluation and treatment of ophthalmic patient.
Essential Job Functions:
Takes history regarding chief complaint past ocular history present past medical history family and social history medications and dosage allergies. Administers eye drops.
Performs age appropriate ophthalmic examinations including the assessment of visual acuity (that includes distance and near monocularly/binocularly and pinhole as well as perform visual and stereo acuity color vision basic ocular motility and assessment of pupils.
Performs manual and automated lensometry for single lenses bifocals and trifocals.
Performs tonometry using Goldmann applanation Tonopen and Eye Care methods.
Performs Goldman and Humphrey visual field testing.
Provides patient education and services for patients including instruction on instilling ocular medication and proper wear of an eye patch.
Provides pre/post op education for surgical procedures including limitation and restrictions patching and shield usage when necessary.
Documents in the Electronic Medical Record and/or paper chart.
Collaborates with the clinical and administrative staff to insure efficient clinical flow. Maintains exam room instruments and supplies checking functionality of equipment on a daily basis; assist with ordering replacement supplies and equipment procurement and maintenance.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients families coworkers and others.
Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection high level disinfection and sterilization if required at part of the responsibilities of the role.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
High School diploma required. Associates degree preferred.
Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) JCAHPO is required. Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician by JCAHPO is preferred.
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required.
Prior pediatric experience strongly preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate with hospital & staff patients and families.
Knowledge of growth and development of infants children adolescent adults and elderly patients in order to provide appropriate care.

$22.25$36.38 HourlyAt Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
