ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)
IRC was created in 1984 to represent the Inuvialuit and their rights and benefits obtained under one of Canadas oldest comprehensive land claim agreements. With assets over $1 billion not including vast land holdings IRC is responsible for corporate investment land management and a broad range of social cultural and economic programs and services benefiting Inuvialuit. Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery manufacturing property management transportation and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry.

JOB SUMMARY
Working with the IRCs Innovation Inuvialuit Science and Climate Change Division (ISCC) this position provides a unique experience to learn about participatory mapping projects and designing online geospatial platforms to meet diverse user needs. You will work closely with the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator and other ISCC team members on different tasks to support IRCs mapping projects with a particular focus on the Inuvialuit Place Names Project cataloging data data preprocessing and analysis. Additionally you will have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing with the GIS Coordinator to gain additional experience with GIS tools cartography methodologies and applications of GIS within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR). The employment term and weekly commitment will be flexible for this opportunity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be/have:
EDUCATION
Grade 12 Diploma and/or Secondary School diploma with an interest in computer science data and research mapping and/or science.
EXPERIENCE
Interest and/or knowledge about data and research
Summarizing documents and writing reports
Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and has experience inputting information into Word Excel and conducting basic analysis or chart generation
Good computer skills
Strong problemsolving skills and critical thinking skills
Knowledge or experience of data visualization techniques (maps infographics charts)
Experience with GIS software (ESRI applications QGIS etc) is considered an asset however is not required
