  • West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill positionsfor middle school math teachers for theschool year.Are you passionate about helping students unlock the power of mathematics We are looking for dynamic dedicated and engaging high school math teachers to join our team and inspire the next generation of problem solvers.

    Qualifications

    • Strong math background and understanding of studentcentered learning in a mathematics classroom
    • All candidates must possess a current appropriate Connecticut teaching certification with Mathematics endorsement 029 229 or be immediately eligible

    WHPS Teachers: Broad Function
    The teacher is responsible for performing the related responsibilities necessary to help pupils develop skills attitude and knowledge that will contribute to their development as mature able and responsible citizens.

    WHPS Teachers: Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Management of Classroom Environment.
      • Creating/maintaining a positive learning environment
        • Provides a safe physical environment
        • Encourages all students to achieve
        • Develop rapport with students
      • Maintaining appropriate standards of behavior
      • Maintaining student involvement in lessons
      • Managing noninstructional time
        • Establishes classroom routines
        • Manages movement between activities
      • Other*
    2. Instruction
      • Planning Instruction
        • Develops instructional goals and objectives
        • Selects content at appropriate level of difficulty
        • Develops teaching strategies
        • Organizes and requests materials
        • Organize students for instructions
      • Implementing instruction that reflects structure and a logical order
        • Communicates purpose of lesson
        • Teaches to intended objective(s)
        • Assess level of student understanding during the lesson
        • Adjusts lesson according to assessment
        • Reviews lesson objective(s) with students
      • Other*
    3. Professional Responsibilities
      • Assessing and evaluating student progress
        • Maintains records
        • Uses data to diagnose student needs
      • Communicating
        • Confers with parents/caregivers and students
        • Consults and cooperates with colleagues
        • Cooperates with noncertified personnel
        • Disseminates school information
      • Other responsibilities as stated in the Agreement

          • Be available to students and parents/caregivers;
          • Participates in grade level department and faculty meetings;
          • Participates in such activities for parents/caregivers and community as open houses curriculum nights etc.;
