About the position:

This is an early to midcareer position in the Chevron ENGINE Earth Science Chapter for a knowledgeable Geoscientist with an established work history delivering highquality carbonate depositional system focused stratigraphic frameworks and reservoir characterization products that are utilized to evaluate hydrocarbon reservoirs.

Chevron ENGINE is looking for highperforming candidates to join our Reservoir Characterization subteam. The successful candidate will support Asset Class Geologists and Technical Specialists to deliver field development/application products. There will be the potential to assist with technology development.
The Carbonate Stratigrapher role will support not only the Reservoir Modeling group within ENGINE but will be partnering with Chevron Technical Center (CTC) subject matter experts to provide differentiating capability and deliver superior outcomes to key asset classes within Chevron.

Key responsibilities:

  • The position will be responsible for executing established carbonate stratigraphic and reservoir characterization workflows utilized to assist with the evaluation of presence and quality of source reservoir and seal in subsurface hydrocarbon reservoirs.

  • This position will be responsible for working closely with subject matter specialists in the Chevron Technical Center (CTC) in Houston and colleagues colocated within the Global Capability Center (GCC).

  • The role requires the ability to integrate multiple data sets to assist business unit partners in the construction of robust geologic frameworks in carbonate systems with an emphasis on regional through fieldscale stratigraphic interpretation and integration.

  • The ideal candidate will have a technical background in carbonate sedimentology and stratigraphy and an understanding of how to utilize and integrate biostratigraphy data into the interpretation (in collaboration with a biostratigrapher). An ability to describe thinsections and incorporate that data into the final reservoir quality evaluation forms a core part of the Chevron carbonate reservoir characterization workflow.

  • Responsibilities will include the framing prioritization and of integrated studies and an ability to work with colleagues in various locations to assess the implications for the petroleum system elements and associated risks across multiple subdisciplines.

  • Additional responsibilities might include assisting with research projects related to the development of new workflows and engaging with laboratory and academic partners.


Required Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Geology in carbonate stratigraphy and sedimentology with at least some emphasis on the impact of diagenesis on their study area.

  • Experience with Petrel preferred familiarity with ArcGIS Spotfire and advanced data analysis tools beneficial.

  • Relevant prior experience working as a carbonate stratigrapher and reservoir characterization specialist in industry.

  • Experience with customer support and understanding of the subsurface business needs and ability to team effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced working knowledge of Petrel interpretation workflows including seismic interpretation (linked to sequence stratigraphic interpretations and ability to incorporate wireline and other well data into an integrated interpretation).

  • Relevant work experience linked to executing integrated workflows and working with reservoir modelers and other crossdisciplinary specialists.

  • Prior experience with geothermal or carbon sequestration projects is also of interest.


Chevron ENGINE supports global operations supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
