Job Description

Occupational Therapist Contractor(s)

The ADEA is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake Hatchet Lake and Fond Du Lac. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology progressively piloting programs and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum.

The ADEA is seeking a competent confident and motivated individual/s to fill the position of an Occupational Therapist as a contractor at Father Porte Memorial Dene School (FPMDS) in Black Lake and Father Gamache Memorial School (FGMS) in Fond Du Lac Northern Saskatchewan. FPMDS is a PreK to Grade 12 facility with a student population of 400 and professional and paraprofessional staff of 60 members. FGMS is a PreK to Grade 12 facility with a student population of 350 and professional and paraprofessional staff of 60 members.

Overview

The Occupational Therapist will help students succeed academically socially and emotionally by providing programs that will help their fine motor visual motor integration sensory processing and other occupational performance skills. The occupational therapist will also consult with teachers administrators parents and other service providers when designing a program to help each student and oversee the process of the program. Occupational Therapist will be working a 1 week shift per month.

Contract Summary:

  1. To complete assessments of preschool and school aged children and interpret diagnostic treatment and education programming information to parents students (where appropriate) teachers and educational assistants.
  2. To monitor educational and treatment intervention and provide ongoing support and consultation to paraprofessionals delivering these programs and services.
  3. To actively participate in developing and delivering professional development inservices and workshops for school personnel parents students and community professionals.
  4. To provide direct intervention services for children as required and to coordinate ongoing treatment with other professionals.
  5. Instructs the paraprofessional in the use of effective intervention strategies with the student(s)

Qualifications:

  • Registered Occupational Therapist in good standing with the CAOT SK Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists Saskatchewan
  • An understanding of Denesuline language and culture would be considered an asset.
  • Willingness to travel 1 week at a time per month.
