About the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

The MSU Denver Meteorology Program has been around for over 40 years and boasts a strong network of successful alumni working all over the country. MSU Denver meteorology students are passionate about the weather and join us from a variety of backgrounds and experiences creating a diverse and exciting learning environment within the classroom. The EAS Department houses a bachelors degree in meteorology a minor in meteorology and a minor in climate meteorology major fulfills the requirements for the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather we prefer candidates with similar background coursework and familiarity with United States weather. The EAS Department has a dedicated meteorology classroom and a meteorology computer lab with AWIPS and a weather a University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) member the program has close ties with the nearby National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

Position Summary

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences EAS at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites candidates to apply for the position of Lecturer of Meteorology. The position starts in the fall 2025 semester. The minimum requirement is a Masters degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences. The position emphasizes teaching excellence with no service or research expectations. The lecturer contract is a oneyear contract with potential for continued renewal. Course enrollment caps are usually 32 students for introductory courses with smaller class sizes for upperdivision courses.

Responsibilities

Nontenure track faculty typically teach the equivalent of 15 undergraduate credit hours per semester with no formal requirement of research or service. This teaching assignment will likely include up to two upper division courses per semester depending on the candidates expertise.

Preference will be given for those candidates that can teach Atmospheric Thermodynamics Physical Meteorology and Weather Observing Systems and Hazardous Weather.

As with all faculty course assignments and specific job duties will be determined based on student needs faculty expertise and the needs of the department. This may involve reassigned time from instruction which falls within the purview of the Chair and Dean.

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $58000 $64000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity education experience specialty and training.
