Job Description

As a Classroom Assistant Substitute you will play a vital role in shaping the educational experiences of young children aged three to five and preparing them for future success. Location/Hours

  • All CenClear Preschool locations travel may be extensive and daily between centers. Compensation for time and mileage occurs based on the reimbursement policy.
  • This is a fulltime position.
  • 40 hours per week 44 weeks per year working MondayFriday start and end time will vary depending on the classroom the individual will be covering.

Responsibilities

  • Upholds the seven commitments of the Sanctuary model of care.
  • Leads the classroom in the absence of the lead teacher and assists when support staff is unavailable.
  • Implements the Creative Curriculum for Preschool and develops lesson plans as needed.
  • Sets and updates individual goals for children and families.
  • Coordinates and supervises classroom staff including aides and assistants.
  • Ensures confidentiality according to agency policy.
  • Documents daily attendance and completes behavior incident reports.
  • Follows Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) practices and all classroom protocols from the Early Childhood Handbook.
  • Engages with parents professionally including communication via Class Dojo.
  • Collaborates with coworkers for planning activities parent trainings and field trips.
  • Maintains a professional image and positive relationships with coworkers school district staff families and community members.
  • Completes a minimum of 24 training hours annually and participates in required meetings and trainings.
  • Aligns practices with PA Early Learning Standards and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
  • Participates in public relations events for at least 7.5 hours annually.
  • Develops and follows a SelfCare and Safety Plan.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned ensuring services are equitable and culturally sensitive.
  • Adheres to school district policies agency memos and all guidelines in the Early Childhood Handbook.
  • Engages in monthly supervision meetings with a supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Child Development Associate Certificate
  • Associate degree in early childhood or a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education
  • Bachelors degree in related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education
  • Bachelors degree and admission/participation into the Teach for America program or
  • Bachelors degree in early childhood or related field with certification in PK4 or Early Childhood Education
  • All teachers in PreK Counts classrooms must have PK4 or Early Childhood certification. Permanent certification must be obtained within the required timeframe.
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to network and collaborate with team members.
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start and Head Start regulations.
  • Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles; health safety and nutrition principles family dynamics communicating and motivating adults community resources and how to link families to these resources.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must obtain the following clearances prior to hire: PA State Police Criminal History PA Child Abuse History FBI Criminal History and Mandated Reporting Certificate

Physical Abilities

  • Reach overhead.
  • Lift and carry objects over fifty 50 pounds.
  • Bend to a childs level and retrieve items from the floor.
  • Stand for extended periods of time with reasonable breaks.
  • Sit at child size tables.
  • Participate in gross motor activities.
  • Walk and stand for periods of over one hour.
  • Hold children on their lap.
  • Climb stairs.
  • Operate kitchen appliances.
  • Stoop to move objects.
  • Use sweeper and other cleaning apparatus (push and pull).
  • Sit on the floor for over thirty minutes.
  • Vision and hearing within normal limits.
  • Hand wash and rinse dishes using chemical disinfectants.
  • Clean various surfaces using chemical disinfectants.
