The University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for a TenureTrack Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Systems in the School of Engineering and Technology. This is a fulltime position with a 9month service period and an expected start date of September 16 2025. The initial appointment will be for a threeyear term eligible for reappointment after successful academic review.
Responsibilities
All faculty at the UW engage in teaching scholarship and service within their school the University and their professional community. The successful candidate will be expected to perform highly effective and inclusive teaching using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technologies in an urbanserving campus environment. Faculty at UWT are expected to teach in multiple modalities including inperson online and hybrid courses. The expected teaching load for this position is equivalent to six courses annually. The successful candidate will also be expected to successfully mentor undergraduate and graduate students with diverse experiences and backgrounds in an academic setting.
The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active research program and publish highquality highimpact publications involving our diverse graduate students in the field of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning and/or Cryptography/Cybersecurity. Some areas of interest in AI are one or more topics including but not limited to AI for Health AI for Science Privacy Preserving Machine Learning or Responsible AI.
This position at UWT offers substantial opportunities to collaborate on innovative crosscampus research collaborations with UW Seattle and UW Bothell in communityengaged and/or interdisciplinary research or scholarship activities. The successful candidate will also participate in institutional professional and communityengaged service by potentially developing a freshman AI experience. The base salary range for this position is $13278 to $13528 per month $119502 $121752 per 9month academic year) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a onetime relocation allowance if applicable and professional/research funds. An earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or closely related field and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and research/scholarship in the candidates area of expertise.
In exceptional circumstances candidates in the final stages of their terminal degree (pending conferral) may be selected and appointed on an acting basis.
