Seattle Preparatory School is a Catholic Jesuit college preparatory school with an enrollment of about 790 students in grades 912. We embrace the Ignatian ideals that God may be found in all things that each person is sacred and that we are created to serve others in community. Our mission is to form discerning transformational leaders who are intellectually competent spiritually alive open to growth loving and committed to justice.
The Prep community is connected by a common mission. Our strength is in our 132year history 13 decades of graduates and 1 purpose to educate young men and women in the Catholic Jesuit tradition to go forth and set the world on fire. On our 5acre property tucked away on the Northend of Capitol Hill Seattle Preparatory School strives to not only provide our students with a transformative education but also do the necessary work to form compassionate resilient and servicedriven men and women for others. Purpose:
Jesuit education also known as Ignatian education is an approach to education inspired by the teachings and principles of St. Ignatius of Loyola the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) a Catholic religious order. Jesuit education is known for its emphasis on intellectual rigor moral and ethical development and the holistic formation of individuals. Jesuit education is not limited to Catholic students and our own and many more Jesuit institutions welcome students of various religious backgrounds. The principles of Jesuit education have been influential in the development of a wellrounded valuesbased approach to education that extends beyond the classroom and into the broader community.
Seattle Prep seeks a fulltime Theology teacher beginning August 2025.
About the Theology Department
Grounded in the Gospel call and the Jesuit tradition religious education at Seattle Preparatory School blends theory and practice doctrine and spirituality academic knowledge and affective formation. Beginning with the students experience this education combines the history beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church with a faithbuilding method that respects the variety of religious traditions alive in the Prep community and the world at large.
Essential Functions
Teach 5 courses in Preps Theology Department. Responsible for curriculum development assessment classroom management family communication
Collaborate with department teachers to ensure consistency and goals of the program
Engage fully in the life of the school: this includes supervision of students participation in meetings retreats professional development and all school masses and assemblies
Fulfill additional supervision duties of fulltime teachers (e.g. study hall)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Theology Religious or Pastoral Studies or related field of study and a minimum of two years of related experience or a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
Experience in ministry or theology program implementation and evaluation
Classroom teaching experience in Theology and expertise with a variety of teaching methodologies
Strong interpersonal communication collaboration and organizational skills
Demonstrated commitment to professional growth.
Practicing Catholic
Willing participation in the cocurricular and Campus Ministry aspects of the school
Demonstrated commitment to Preps mission and values especially as it relates to diversity equity inclusion and belonging
Supportive of the mission of a Catholic Jesuit high school and formation of the whole person.
All employees must complete a criminal history background check and safe environment training upon hire and every 3 years
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Divinity Religious or Pastoral Studies teaching or related field of study
Ability to teach various courses and grade levels
Five or more years of Theology teaching experience preferably in a high school
Experience with Jesuit Catholic education
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range: $66343 $118560 annually. Salary is determined based on skills and qualifications.
Our outstanding benefits package includes an allowance of $19800 annually (prorated for parttime employment) that may be applied to benefits including medical dental vision life disability insurance and flexible spending account. Employees who do not elect insurance may choose to receive the benefits allowance as supplemental pay. Our 403b program includes up to a 7.5 employer contribution when employee match considerations are met. Tuition remission generous time off sick leave and a schoolsponsored medical leave program are also significant parts of our benefits package.
