Job Description

Salary/Position Classification

  • $25.00 hourly NonExempt (Eligible for overtime)
  • 10 hours per week
  • 100 Remote Work Availability: No
  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): Yes

Purpose of Position

This is a parttime nonbenefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
The purpose of this position is to engage an engineering undergraduate in prototyping innovative engineering solutions to advance the state of the art in hydrocephalus treatment. The student will contribute to the development of hydrocephalus shunts monitoring sensors and related technologies. This role involves handson prototyping testing and refinement of medical devices as well as collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Strong communication skills are essential for effective teamwork documentation and presentation of research findings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prototype Development Design build and test engineering solutions for hydrocephalus shunts and monitoring sensors.
  • Device Testing & Optimization Conduct experiments analyze data and refine prototypes to improve performance and reliability.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork Work with engineers medical professionals and researchers to advance project goals.
  • Technical Documentation Maintain detailed records of designs tests and findings; contribute to reports and presentations.
  • Communication & Presentation Present project updates findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrollment in an Engineering Program Pursuing a bachelors degree in biomedical mechanical electrical or related engineering field.
  • Prototyping Experience Basic knowledge of designing building and testing engineering solutions.
  • Analytical Skills Ability to troubleshoot and optimize device performance.
  • Team Collaboration Experience working in group projects or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Effective Communication Ability to document work and present findings clearly.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
