Job Description
Iowa State University of Science and Technology a national leader among studentcentric research universities invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business. The successful candidate will hold the David and Ellen Raisbeck Endowed Deanship a $6.2 million endowment of which the proceeds are used solely to support the deans priorities for the college.
The Ivy College of Business
Established in 1984 the Ivy College of Business is accredited by AACSB International and includes academic departments of accounting finance information systems and business analytics management and entrepreneurship marketing and supply chain management. The colleges mission is to conduct and share research to educate tomorrows business leaders and to prepare them to successfully address multidisciplinary global technological ethical and business challenges. Ivy College enrollment increased by 7.8 in fall 2024 setting a new enrollment record. The official fall 2024 enrollment for the Ivy College consists of 4722 undergraduate and 475 graduate students whose college home is the Gerdin Business Building. This stateoftheart building provides an environment where students and faculty replicate realworld situations in areas such as securities investing professional selling market research and entrepreneurship. The college has been instrumental in developing interdisciplinary programs across the university received national recognition for many of its business programs leads the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and is home to the states Small Business Development Centers.
Academic Degrees
- The college offers multiple Masters of Business Administration programs including professional and executive tracks.
- The Department of Accounting offers both an undergraduate major and minor in accounting a master of accounting and a master of accounting analytics.
- The Department of Finance offers undergraduate majors in finance business economics and actuarial science a minor in finance masters degrees in both finance and in real estate development and a PhD with a specialization in finance.
- The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics offers undergraduate majors in business analytics and management information systems a minor in business analytics masters degrees in business analytics information systems and health analytics and operations and a PhD with a specialization in information systems and business analytics.
- The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship offers undergraduate majors in management entrepreneurship healthcare management human resources management international business an online bachelors degree in business administration undergraduate minors in management entrepreneurship and international business a master of entrepreneurship and a PhD with specializations in management or in entrepreneurship.
- The Department of Marketing offers both an undergraduate major and minor in marketing a minor in business and technology consulting and a PhD with a specialization in marketing.
- The Department of Supply Chain Management offers both an undergraduate major and minor in supply chain management and a PhD with a specialization in supply chain management.
Over the past decade the college has made remarkable strides in research productivity and reputation by hiring and retaining productive scholars creating programs to provide research support and funding incentives to reward productivity.
Since initiating its PhD program in 2009 the college has seen graduates from each specialization secure positions at R1 institutions. The college has been consistently featured in various business school research rankings. Faculty members from each of the colleges six departments regularly publish in premier journals that have very selective acceptance rates. The Ivy faculty is eager to further increase the research profile of the college with the support of the new dean.
Role of the Dean
The dean will be responsible for providing a creative interdisciplinary focus to the college that reflects and complements the science and technology strengths of Iowa State University. The dean will also lead the college to greater national and international academic prominence while fully integrating the universitys missions of research teaching service and outreach.
Candidates must have a graduate or professional degree and a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education business practice or public service commensurate with the expectations of appointment as a tenured full professor in the Ivy College of Business.
The preferred candidate will have proven leadership experience; the ability to develop and foster strong relationships with students faculty and staff and business and industry leaders; the skills to facilitate and communicate a vision internally and externally regarding the colleges contribution to the overarching mission of a landgrant university; a record of success in fundraising or the skills necessary to be successful in fundraising; experience in performing business related research as applied within academia or industry; a commitment to supporting and growing the colleges academic research profile; a commitment to leading and growing innovation and entrepreneurship programs across the university through collaborations with colleges centers and industry partners; an enthusiastic leadership style that will inspire students staff faculty alumni and corporate partners; a demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive work environment; a demonstrated commitment to furthering student success; and expertise to guide organizational development and to creatively address issues on the forefront of business education and research.
