Job Description
The content creator will provide visual coverage for important gatherings as well as create videos for signature events that elevate the experience for guests. This role will also be responsible for capturing visuals and producing a variety of promotional content for focused paid and organic social media campaigns.
Visual coverage of events will include donor recognition dinners receptions awards ceremonies socials reunions etc. and imagery will be shared with attendees and/or be published in public relations stewardship materials and on the universitys digital channels.
The content creator will capture produce and edit photos and videos for external audiences. The candidate must have excellent communications skills and be able to assess and meet a variety of needs including crafting different content for different platforms and audiences.
Duties include capturing candid and staged moments at major events while working hand in hand with event coordinators. The content creator will arrive before attendees to the scene of gatherings take images of people as they arrive capture moments of guests enjoying receptions or dinners and other shots as directed.
The content creator will bring innovative enterprising ideas and stay current with emerging technologies platforms and photo/video best practices. The content creator must also demonstrate good professional judgment follow university brand guidelines and adhere to university policies and procedures.
Collaboration with Advancement colleagues will be key and include working on stewardship marketing and communications projects.
This role will also take a leadership role in ideating on promotional video concepts storyboarding and planning the production of videos. The content creator will also collaborate closely with other creatives including the universitys social media and brand creative teams.
Experience with content management systems and digital asset management systems is preferred. The content creator will upload visual content to websites and appropriately tag and upload images to the universitys photo library.
The ideal candidate will have professional experience as an events photographer and videographer or a similar role working in a dynamic highenergy events environment. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and as a team multitask and work on multiple deadlinedriven projects simultaneously. Deadlines will be fast. Work on nights and weekends is expected. This role will also have occasional travel.
The content creator reports to the assistant director of Advancement communications. The team is located at Virginia Techs Blacksburg campus. The candidates efforts are focused on supporting Advancement and universitylevel priorities and meeting the needs of Advancement and university colleagues. Candidates should submit a portfolio of their photography and videography work that illustrates their ability to be successful in the position.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience as an events photographer/videographer or a similar role or experience working in a dynamic highenergy events environment.
Portfolio that demonstrates deep knowledge of photography and videography.
Experience working independently and as a team multitasking and working on multiple deadlinedriven projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
Fluency with using Canon Sony or Nikon mirrorless cameras to images and video.
Demonstrated experience producing written and visual content (video photos graphics) for social media and/or other digital platforms.
Demonstrated experience producing and curating content thats accessible and inclusive for diverse audiences on digital platforms
Demonstrated experience executing and planning creative campaigns
Familiarity with industry social media trends and best practices.
Ability to work nights and weekends and participation in college or university programs when possible.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in video production photography visual communication journalism new media fine arts or equivalent work and/or academic experience.
Experience with content management systems and digital asset management systems.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Macbased systems and software.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Marketing and branding experience.
