Summary:

Launched in March 2013 the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center is the first and only facility dedicated to the study and rehabilitation of extremely fearful undersocialized dogs such as those confiscated from puppy mills and hoarding situations. In 2017 the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center (BRC) relocated to a new permanent and expanded facility in Weaverville North Carolina. The mission of the BRC is to share best practices develop structured behavior modification programs for other animal welfare organizations and assist with these programs implementation. Our ultimate goal is to maximize lifesaving impact through partnership and collaboration with shelter partners across the country.

The Coordinator Transport works with internal and external partners to arrange and carryout transport of dogs in need of offsite medical services adoptable dogs to placement partners and incoming dogs arriving for behavioral treatment.

The successful candidate is a true collaborator working closely with colleagues across the ASPCA as well partners at veterinary clinics and transfer organizations. The individual in this role will also provide direct support for the adoptions program assisting in match making and introducing dogs to potential adopters.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Functional Duties 60

  • Safely and humanely transport dogs some of which are medically and/or behaviorally compromised to and from ASPCA facilities veterinary partners and partner shelters.

  • Coordinate all aspects of animal transport with sending and receiving partners including lining up alternate drivers as needed

  • Train staff from other areas to assist with transports including training on professional appearance maintaining clean and safe vehicles and safeguarding program assets and animals

  • Support all aspects of animal transportincluding but not limited to:partner relations and quality assurance animal readiness proper transport fleet oversight and maintenance appropriate animal handling transport schedule routes emergency preparedness etc.

  • Support development of efficient tools to track and verify all aspects of safe and humane transport operations fleet/vehicle maintenance and driver training and retention

  • Participate in daily crossshelter rounds anticipating pending transports and collaborating with BRC colleagues to monitor capacity and discuss transports

  • Collaborate with the veterinary team daily to ensure timely transfer of dogs in need of veterinary care

  • Work closely with direct supervisors of backup drivers to ensure appropriate level of competent engaged backup transport assistance is available

  • Oversee and track proper maintenance of program vehicles ensuring all fleet maintenance cleaning and inspections are current and properly logged

  • Maintains inventory of supplies to ensure the viability of daily transports

  • Serve as main contact person for management of transport inventory vehicle maintenance and asset logistics

  • Participate in ASPCA Fleet and driver development opportunities

  • Attend and participate in organizationwide workgroups and committees related to animal transport and vehicle requisition/disposition and maintenance

  • Participates in required trainings and actively pursues professional development

  • Perform other duties as assignedby Senior Director Operations.

Operational Support15

  • Provide backup support for adoptions working directly with adopters to ensure high quality placements creating a positive experience for dogs and potential adopters eliminating ineffective barriers to adoption as needed

  • Provide support for the Care & Enrichment Team assisting in daily animal care as the need arises during lowstaffing days or PTO.

  • Assist in monitoring intake inquiries and assist in coordinating incoming dogs into the Behavior Rehab Center

  • Provide support in the collection and management of animal health and behavior data

  • Assist as requested in behavior treatments and evaluations as a novel person

  • Maintain handling skills and develop strong collaborative relationships with colleagues by participating in playgroup behavior treatment loading dogs for transport veterinary exams and humane euthanasia as needed and when appropriate

Administrative and Operational Duties(25

  • Maintain the Behavior Rehabilitation Centers drivers list keeping it current and in compliance with the ASPCAs guidelines verifying all requirements are met for each driver

  • Attend and meaningfully contribute to all relevant BRC and ASPCA meetings

  • Assume financial accountability for an ASPCA credit card and workrelated expenses

  • Maintain all receipts and prepare monthly expense reports

  • Understand and follow all ASPCA expense and travel policies

  • Accurately track and report time worked time off and workrelated expenses

  • Responsibly steward BRC assets

Education and Work Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Professional or volunteer animal care experience with dogs is required

  • Experience developing programs strongly preferred

  • 5 or more years driving experience preferred

  • Experience in animal transportation or veterinary/animal shelter services preferred

  • Fear Free Shelter Program certification (approximately 5 hours) required or completed within 60 days of hire

Qualifications

  • Must provide a valid drivers license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50 of the time.

  • Ability to drive up to 8 hours per day 5 days per week and potential travel away from home as needed.

  • Available to work a flexible schedule including days evenings weekends and holidays

  • Fluent in the use of MS Word Excel PowerPoint; familiarity with shelter software systems or Salesforce a plus

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Able to regularly witness animals suffering medically and/or behaviorally

  • Comfortable with humane euthanasia in theory and in practice

  • Displays concern for the safety and wellbeing of self animals and others especially under stress

Compensation and benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors including but not limited to education training experience location business needs internal equity market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

The target hiring range for this role is $23.00 $24.20/hour.
