CBCs Scripted Content division is home to high impact awardwinning Canadian dramas comedies and feature films. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about Canadian storytelling to join the creative team that manages the development of programs for our department. Under the direction of CBCs Director(s) of Development you will play a pivotal role in the managing of the ongoing evaluation and tracking of pitches scripts and related business materials for drama comedy or feature films. You will also represent and convey CBCs creative interests to the independent production community.
Duties also involve the ongoing collaborative evaluation of pitches and projects under consideration throughout the development cycle. Working with the team to provide input into aspects of development involving creative materials in terms of their story strengths relevance and ability to draw audiences (including new viewers) to prime time slots.
In this role you will:
Coordinate the management tracking and distribution of project pitches andsubmissions for the department.
Manage and maintain the database of all creative and business materials for thedepartment.
Enter projects into the database create top sheets and manage distributioncleanup and updates of entries.
Create maintain and update internal systems of tracking (content and talent) toinclude in key metrics reporting including areas such as CMF allocation tracking mentorship & training initiatives diversity reports health & safety protocols awards and festivals.
Manage communications and relationships with the external productioncommunity through the pitching process.
Provide an indepth evaluation of projects and/or programs for the department.
Establish new relationships expand outreach opportunities and CBCs access tonew talent.
Coordinate research projects that identify new/current trends in dramatic andcomedic programming.
Liaise with our Research Department to relate ongoing audience trends andopportunities with the Scripted Content team.
Keep informed of CBCs creative mandates audience targets as well asbusiness parameters and practices.
Attend some industry events conferences festivals (requires work outside ofregular office hours).
Manage CMF predevelopment letters of interest.
Coordinates with all other EFS departments to track and allocate letters.
Manage Bell Slate Fund letters of interest.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
A University degree or equivalent 5 years relevant experience (includesinternships job shadowing and learning spaces e.g. BIPOC workshops).
Strong coordination and management experience as well as the ability to functioncollaboratively in a highly competitive environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a very wide range of individuals such as producers writers directors bearing in mind the sensitivity of creative issues especially in the rushed and often stressful environment of television production.
Ability to speak effectively in meetings and presentations and provide accurate and detailed written correspondence on a daily basis.
Cultural awareness and sensitivity
Additional knowledge and skills required:
A passion for and knowledge about scripted programming in Canada and around the world.
A strong story sensibility.
The ability to read and absorb high volumes of material on an ongoing basis.
Knowledge of and ideally existing relationships within the independent production community.
High level of discretion in handling confidential information.
Extremely organized clear and aware of priorities in providing information to the Directors of Development Executive Director and other superiors and colleagues.
Ability to maintain cordial and productive working relationships with colleagues both within and outside CBC including producers writers and agents as well asthe general public.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and conduct indepth analysis.
Excellent organizational skills.
A distinctive life experience perspective or expertise to bring to the team that willenrich our content.
Strong knowledge and understanding of and/or connection to underrepresentedcommunities across Canada.
Position is based in Toronto.
