Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan to start in Fall 2025. The annual salary will be $60000 or higher depending on what previous experience the successful applicant brings to the position plus generous benefits. The initial appointment as a Research Fellow is for one year with the possibility of renewal up to two additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
The postdoc will work with Prof. Emily Rauscher on the topic of highresolution spectroscopic characterization of hot Jupiter atmospheres with a focus on how to extract threedimensional information from these measurements. The position will involve the analysis of existing highres data with additional work that could involve: 1 the study of simulated highres spectra from existing 3D models to determine how best to parameterize 3D effects in highres retrievals and/or 2 preparatory work to determine what 3D information will be accessible in measurements from the upcoming METIS and ANDES instruments on ESOs ELT. Prof. Rauscher is a member of the Science Teams for these instruments.
