Salary

The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. CAD $41.35/Hr.

Summary

Join our Hemodialysis Unit as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and gain valuable handson experience in a dynamic and supportive learning environment. As part of an interprofessional nephrology team youll have the chance to develop your skills in pre during and postdialysis care while learning to assess plan and document patient care. This role offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with RNs/RPNs for advanced care all while adhering to the highest professional standards and contributing to the mission of Providence Health Care.

What You Bring

Education

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses with the full range of current licensed practical nursing competencies and successful completion of a recognized Dialysis Program for Licensed Practical Nurses plus one 1 year recent related experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in acute care or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Current basic cardiac life support certification.
  • If the applicant does not possess the required qualifications PHC will fund PostBasic Education.
  • Funding will consist of 100 for tuition and books; and wages at a rate of 100 of the posted FTE. The length of the PostBasic Education is approximate. Eligibility for PostBasic Education is restricted to applicants with a minimum of one 1 year acute care experience and who have not received PostBasic Education Funding from PHC in the past two 2 years. Applicant must successfully complete the PostBasic Education prior to working in the Department.

Your Day to Day:

  • Assesses plans implements evaluates and documents patient care during pre dialysis and postdialysis periods providing support and educational material to patients and families.
  • Performs patient admission duties including assessing needs and collaborating with the nephrology team to plan care.
  • Carries out hemodialysisrelated duties such as weighing patients cannulating fistulas or grafts and assisting with heparin regulation under RN guidance.
  • Administers medications and assists RNs in nursing functions adhering to established standards and protocols.
  • Monitors patients during dialysis communicates changes to RN and provides appropriate interventions.
  • Documents patient observations treatments and care activities during all stages of dialysis.
  • Collaborates with RNs to assess patients physical and emotional needs ensuring proper care levels and access routes.
  • Maintains knowledge of dialysis equipment recognizes issues and communicates problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and patient rounds to share and gather feedback on patient care.
  • Assists in orienting new staff demonstrating procedures and proper use of equipment.
  • Enhances nephrology knowledge through educational sessions inservices and literature reviews.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety by following safety protocols and reporting hazards.
  • Performs clerical duties including answering phones taking messages and maintaining records.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
