Job Description

Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of all airport services and facilities. This role involves hiring and managing a diverse team ensuring compliance with aviation regulations maintaining high safety standards and delivering exceptional customer service to passengers airlines and stakeholders. Other responsibilities include providing and guiding the strategic vision of the Board of Directors working closely with all stakeholders in guiding the airports overall success and building positive relationships with local and regional business leaders.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic visioning for the airport creates a vision for future growth by upgrading infrastructure to accommodate the increasing passenger demands new aircraft technologies and evolving operational needs.
  • Experienced in the management of a Part 139 Commercial Service Airport and oversees the overall terminal airfield and FBO operations and maintenance to provide safe and secure facilities supporting excellent customer service for passengers tenants and other stakeholders.
  • Oversees and coordinates airport services to ensure efficient aircraft movements and ground operations. Addresses all community concerns for ground noise and emissions.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal state and local aviation regulations airport policies and safety protocols. Responsible for daytoday working relationships with the FAA TSA Caltrans airlines general aviation customers tenants users vendors and service contractors.
  • Works with the Board of Directors in planning and creating overall policies and attends all Airport Board meetings and consults with the Board of Directors of all relevant matters concerning the management of the airport including leasing and financial arrangements.
  • Responsible for the preparation of operating monitoring and maintaining overall airport budgets including capital projects. Manages the collection and audit of all revenues to the airport.
  • Directs and participates in the negotiation and management of real estate transactions concessions contracts commercial service agreements and oversees contract compliance.
  • Develops and/or directs environmental and ecological priorities including noise abatement and PFAS mitigation in concert with local State and Federal partners.
  • Supervises trains and develops a team of competent airport staff members. Oversees any vendors providing services to the airport.
  • Promotes public recognition and achievements of the airport as an essential element of the community infrastructure. Responsible for representing the airport and interfacing with the local and business community; conducts personal appearances and contacts with others. Provides timely information of relevant airport operations to the press and via electronic media.
  • Ensures the airport remains competitive by keeping up with industry trends and innovation in aviation services.
  • Create and maintain reports on operational performance safety incidents financial status and other key metrics to the Board of Directors including Rates and Charges/Rates by Ordinance Program.
  • Plans and executes airport projects including facility airfield or system expansions or updates.
  • Identifies opportunities for revenue growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Aviation Management Business Administration or related field; Masters degree preferred.
  • 710 years of relevant experience with 23 years in a senior leadership role.
  • A.A.E. or equivalent accreditation (ACI IAP).
  • Strong knowledge of airport operations financial management and aviation regulations.
  • Exceptional crisis management customer service and communication skills.
