Job Description

Overview:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY GRANTFUNDED INTERNSHIP.

This internship is grantfunded and may be limited to the duration of the grant.

Under the direction of the Director of the Boston Police Departments (BPDs) Office of Research and Development (ORD) the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Intern CVIPI) Intern will staff the DOJ Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) funded CVIPI program. He/she will work closely with the BPHCs Project Coordinator on the implementation of the CVIPI Project. CVIPI program components include:

  • A partnership between the BPHCs Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Initiative the BPD district community service officers nonprofits We Are Better Together and the Transitional Prison Project to work with returning citizens and their caregivers in Boston neighborhoods upon their reentry.
  • The development of a CVIPI Advisory and Planning Committee.
  • Participation in VIP communitybuilding activities and efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Crime data collection analysis and reporting through the BPDs Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC).
  • Quality documentation and dissemination of CVIPI crime statistics at all CVIPI advisory committees and community meetings.
  • Attending all CVIPIrelated meetings or other related activities.
  • Support with accessing crime data and evidencebased solutions with regard to all CVIPI strategies chosen in partnership with the community.
  • Participation in the development of quarterly and annual reports to BPD the BPHC community partners and the DOJ/BJA.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Education Level: Graduate Level (Intern who is currently in Graduate School).
  • Experience required: A successful candidate should have data collection analysis and presentation skills; research presentation skills and experience; strong interpersonal and organization skills; strong writing and verbal communication skills; meeting planning and facilitation skills; strong marketing skills; and must possess skills to multitask take initiative and maintain confidentiality. Ability to attend meetings during the evening car and license are preferable.
  • Preferred: Experience with GIS Microsoft Access and SPSS. Knowledge around public safety practices and affordable housing is also preferred.
