The CBC Nova Scotia team is looking to expand our roster of casual talent for the position of ENG Videographer. Shifts will be based on need and could be occasional days every few weeks or more consistent for vacation coverage and backfilling sick leave.
Your role
You will perform tasks as a specialist in ENG video production while actively contributing creatively to storytelling by frequently composing distinctive visuals within the scope and time constraints of the programs onair schedule.
We are looking for a candidate who has the following qualifications:
Combination of education and experience equivalent to a postsecondary education and 3 years of relevant experience in TV and media arts.
Excellent level of technical knowledge and understanding of daily Television News production methods. This includes understanding picture composition and single camera lighting.
Ability to operate an Electronic News Gathering (ENG) camera and associated technology such as wireless microphones lighting equipment and communication tools.
Ability to edit video/audio using nonlinear editing technology such as Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere in both an office or remote setting.
Ability and willingness to handle technical operation (camera/audio/troubleshooting) for remote locations on daily TV newscasts.
Strong skills in both picture composition when using the camera as well as content presentation during the editing process.
A strong team player with experience and/or willingness to work with new reporters to help them develop their oncamera skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations.
Ability to ask scripted questions of people being recorded or interviewed.
Must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to pursue the acquisition of story elements with minimum supervision ensuring a high degree of accuracy quality and creativity.
Experience with LIVE television and daily news is an asset. Must possess a valid drivers license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanadas insurance company.
Experience with doubleender kits voice recording devices and iPhones is an asset.
Experience with camera work in a studio or multicamera live environment is an asset.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
