Job Description

Job Description
The successful candidate will work to prepare and analyze genomics data generated within the lab and beyond. Most work will focus on bulk and singlecell gene expression data from normal and cancerous human samples but this may grow over time to include other organisms and molecular species.

Familiarity with the R programming environment is required and knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. Python) workflow development languages (e.g. Snakemake WDL and Nextflow) and collaborative coding practices (e.g. GitHub) is a plus.

Responsibilities will primarily involve application of existing code with some development of new code as needed.

Under direct supervision this individual will preprocess and perform quality control of omics datasets execute the labs analytical pipelines and prepare these outputs for ingestion into a cloudbased data ecosystem. Additionally this individual will have the opportunity to contribute to original analyses of omics data and serve as coauthor on resulting publications. This is an entrylevel role that is ideal for for someone who is looking to gain at least two years of intensive computational biology research experience before applying to graduate school.

Under direct supervision acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis. Works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $61200 $77700 (Annual Rate).

  • Basic knowledge of R programming
  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Basic consultation and communication skills.


    • Acquiring statistical analysis systems programming and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.
    • Familiarity with analysis of gene expression data including gene coexpression analysis
    • Previous experience conducting bioinformatic research in an academic laboratory environment
    • Familiarity with workflow development languages (e.g. Snakemake WDL NextFlow)
    • Familiarity with collaborative coding practices (e.g. GitHub)
