We are seeking an experienced Applied Science Manager to lead a team of talented applied scientists hardware and software engineers developing and deploying advanced vision machine learning and control algorithms. You will drive innovation that enables manipulation in highcontact highdensity and diverse conditions with the speed and reliability that will delight our customers. You will deliver reliable and highperforming solutions that will scale across geographies applications and operating conditions.
Key job responsibilities
As a manager you will be responsible for delivering critical robotic capabilities.
You will manage across the science and engineering job families required to build these systems.
You will prioritize being a great people manager: motivating rewarding and coaching your diverse team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in daytoday people and performance management tasks.
You will keep your technical skills current to contribute to architecture and design discussions.
You will regularly take part in deepdive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical postmortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
Set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps. Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Use project management skills to deliver product roadmap items and other crossteam projects.
A day in the life
Prioritize being a great people manager: motivating rewarding and coaching your diverse team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in people and performance management tasks.
Set a vision for the team and create the technical roadmap that deliver results for customers while thinking big for future applications.
Guide the research design deployment and evaluation of complex computer vision and motion planning algorithms for contactrich cluttered realworld manipulation problems.
Work closely with motion hardware and software teams to create integrated robotic solutions that are better than the sum of their parts.
Implement best practices in applied research and software development managing project timelines resources and deliverables effectively.
A PhD in Computer Science Robotics or a related engineering field
6 years of applied research experience
3 years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
Experience in computer vision and/or motion control domains solving complicated robotics problems for automation tasks
Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
Ability to build and collaborate effectively with a diverse talented team
Ability to distill informal customer requirements into problem definitions dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives
Experience shipping computer vision machine learning or robotics products to customers
Handson experience with robotic manipulation in realworld scenarios
Experience designing developing and deploying enterprise solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS)
