Job Description

WORK SCHEDULE: 4 hrs/day when school is in session. Primarily needed from 8:30a12:30p. 180 days.Additional hours may be required for meetings and/or training related to the position.

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to provide teachers or the school with classroom clerical instructional and/or school supervision duties. IAs play a key role in ensuring equity and inclusion for all students. Responsibilities will include a variety of routine activities as well as more complicated tasks involving carrying out instructional or support plans for students under teacher supervision and/or as designed by a special education teacher. Priority hiring for 1st and 2nd grade.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists licensed staff members for the purpose of instructing diverse students including students with disabilities individually and in small groups by implementing lesson plans instructional activities; administering tests; teaching library skills; and planning.
  • Monitors individual students classroom and campus activities for the purpose of providing a safe inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Conducts small reading and math intervention groups as assigned.
  • Maintains classroom equipment students files records etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required.
  • Performs limited clerical functions directly related to the instructional assignment for the purpose of instructing students (i.e. preparing materials instructional records for student files data collection etc.
  • Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving ones skills/knowledge.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities (i.e. small groups differentiated instruction academic social and behavioral interventions computer labs physical and/or occupational therapy and/or talented and gifted..
  • Provides other related services as assigned.

SKILLS ABILITIES AND/OR KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to supervise small and large groups of children both in the classroom and outdoors.
  • Ability to understand and implement the schools and individual student behavior management plan with fidelity and compassion.
  • Ability to work with challenging behaviors and creatively problemsolve difficult situations while using approved intervention strategies.
  • Ability to understand and implement instructional goals and carry out work assignments in a manner that supports those goals.
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages.
  • Ability to independently organize and carry out work assignments follow student schedules or individualized education plans.
  • Prior job related experience with school age children and knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes preferred. High levels of patience flexibility and creativity are a plus!

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is regularly required to stand and use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls. The employee is required to regularly walk (occasionally on an uneven surface) occasionally sit and reach with hands and arms (frequently reaching above the shoulder) stoop kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision color vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Supervision responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a students safety is being jeopardized.
