Summary:
The Coordinator of Special Education directly assists the Director of Special Education in the leadership of special education regulatory activities and instructional programming for students with disabilities including the direct implementation of the WPS Special Education Department strategic plan. Masters Degree required. Licensure in administration or other school leadership credentials preferred.
Essential Functions/Tasks:
- Leads key activities and supports the implementation of the WPS Special Education Department strategic plan.
- Directly supervises special education related service providers.
- Manages district Individual Services Plan (ISP) caseload for students parentally placed in private school or homeschool settings.
- Collaborates with regional program staff to oversee comprehensive programming and case management for students attending Northwestern Regional Educational Programs (NREP).
- Develops implements and monitors comprehensive program support for Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL) and Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) classrooms.
- Develops implements and monitors professional development programming for special education teacher assistants.
- Manages annual Child Count Student with Intensive Support Needs Application(SISNA) and other state and federal reporting requirements on behalf of the division.
- Leads IDEA eligibility Individualized Education Program (IEP) 504 and Manifestation Determination (MDR) proceedings.
- Provides regulatory and procedural guidance to schoolbased teams on issues related to IDEA and 504 proceedings.
- Collaborates with the Director to evaluate programming and establish staff development focuses on an ongoing basis.
- Facilitates regular special education staff meetings.
- Serves as a consultant to the division Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
- Represents the WPS Special Education Department at the division local regional and state levels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Masters degree in Special Education Education Administration or related field with a minimum of three years of teaching or commensurate service in the field of special education required. Experience serving in a specialist coach or other administrative role preferred.
