Job Description

Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness poverty and addictions. We hire people that are skilled and passionate to meet our mission to end homelessness through outcomebased strategies which support personal and community transformation.

Karibu is a dorm style culturally specific program that serves AA/Black Men. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the client flow in the Karibu program and is an integral part of the program case management team. The Karibu Resident Advocate will support and monitor men exiting or diverting from incarceration that will be assessed for their next level of care. The Karibu Resident Advocate will be a member of a team to provide support to clients who may experience severe mental health issues life threatening physical health issues Intellectual/Developmental Disability issues and dangerous psychopathy. The Karibu Resident Advocate will communicate document and report client activity.

Karibu(pronouncedkahREEboo)providesindividualized culturally specific stabilization and treatment preparation for Black/African Americanadults. Services includeoutreach and engagementaddiction and mental healthrecoverysupport peer services case management and transitional housing in the form of dormitory style best for 1420 unstably housed men.

Schedule: Thursday Sunday 07:00 AM 3:30 PM Monday 3:00 PM 11:30 PM

Location: Karibu 2020 SE Powell Blvd Portland OR 97202

Compensation: Starting at $20.78 per hour could increase depending on experience and internal equity

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical dependency addictions and mental health issues preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity using computers for basic functions (data entry word processing).
  • Ability to adhere to Central City Concerns drugfree workplace which encourages a safe healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the DrugFree Work Place Act of 1988. An employee shall not in the workplace unlawfully manufacture distribute dispense possess or use a controlled substance.
  • Must pass a preemployment drug screen and background check.
  • Must not actively be on parole or probation.
  • Physical ability to bend stoop kneel squat twist reach pull lift heavy objects and climb stairs several times a day.
  • Must adhere to agencys nondiscrimination policies.
  • Ability to effectively interact with coworkers and residents/program participants with diverse backgrounds religious views political affiliation cultural backgrounds lifestyles and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and direct clients document client interactions and provide information and updates to day shift staff.
  • Interact with clients over course of shift as appropriate.
  • Provide support and basic resource information to clients.
  • Monitor building/client common areas.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of common areas in the building to monitor building/clients.
  • Generate reports routine computer input; create correspondence and filing as directed by team lead.
  • Log events/ incidents using factual observation based documentation.
  • Obtain urinalysis from clients as directed by STP/ARC/ DCP case management staff or team lead.
  • Update STP area with appropriate resource information as directed by Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy and security regulations applicable to the program and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality privacy and security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to consider the impacts and outcomes for underserved communities during decisionmaking process.
  • Ability to consider impacts of oppression structural racism and individual bias on client outcomes.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical dependency as a disease mental health treatment and intervention methods.
  • Relevant or adequate knowledge of CCC health services and area resources.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to establish priorities.
  • Ability to display a nonjudgmental attitude and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of community and social agencies and selfhelp groups.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Detailed oriented; ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.
  • Knowledge of deescalation methods or ability to be trained in deescalation methods.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and effectively communicate with clients coworkers corrections personnel police merchants the public at large and supervisor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work
  • Ability to work with individuals who experience severe mental health issues life threatening physical health issues intellectual or developmental disabilities and potentially dangerous psychopathy.
