Job Description
Position Summary
Applicants must have passed or be able to pass the preenrollment requirements for the MCOLES Basic Training Academy (Reading and Writing Test PreEnrollment Physical Fitness Test). This position is for applicants interested in going to the Police Academy to become sworn law enforcement officer. Under direct supervision Police Recruits participate in an academy program that provides instruction in criminal law patrol procedures community policing defensive tactics and other essential skills required for police work. At the completion of the academy you will become a MCOLES certified Police Officer for the State of Michigan.
Duties:
- Attend and complete required training at the police academy.
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in state and federal laws local ordinances and police department policies.
- Participate in practical exercises including physical fitness training firearms instruction and emergency response scenarios.
- Shadow experienced officers to observe patrol techniques and community interaction.
- Study and pass examinations on criminal law investigation techniques and ethical standards. Maintain physical and mental readiness for law enforcement duties. Perform other trainingrelated duties as assigned.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESSTHE FOLLOWING:
- Must be available to work 12 hour shifts to include nights weekends holidays and various overtime assignments
- Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive and extensive background investigation covering school and employment records home environment and personal traits and integrity
- Honorably discharged USA Armed Forces Veteran (copy of DD214 must be included in application packet) if apply
- Must be a US Citizen at time of job offer
- Possess a valid Michigan Drivers License at time of employment with a satisfactory driving record
- Nopending orpast felony convictions
- Ability to pass a criminal history record check
- Meet physical standards as determined by the Universitys Medical Doctor
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional education or experience satisfied through either:
- Associates degree.
- Completion of 24 semester credit (or term equivalency) hours of college level coursework (some military course credits may be used for equivalency) and two years of active or completed military commitment in good standing.
- Must be able to meet all MCOLES certification/licensing requirements.
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the academy.
