Job Description:
This position provides instructional or learning resource lab support services under the recommendation of faculty in a nonteaching capacity for various science labs within the Natural Sciences department. This position is responsible for keeping all science lab spaces facilities and equipment in working condition and ensuring students have an optimum learning environment.Setup Labs:
Acquire lab supplies according to prep guides provided by Faculty within the Natural Science Department. Natural Science labs include but not limited to: Anatomy/physiology Astronomy Biology Chemistry (Inorganic Organic and Biochemistry) Earth Science Environmental Science Geology (Physical Historical) Integrated Science Meteorology Microbiology Nutrition and Physics (algebrabased calculus based conceptual).
Prepare chemical and biological solutions with proper legal labeling and compatible containers.
Inoculate microbial cultures using aseptic technique and prepare sterile media.
Communicate concerns and/or changes to lab supplies and materials to relevant faculty.
Assist with setting up lab demonstrations for instructors.
Instruct and answer questions related to the proper and safe use of equipment for faculty staff and students. Monitor lab classes for safety compliance and opportunities to provide additional support.
Tear Down Labs:
Take down laboratory setups and store materials in the appropriate location.
Remove supplies and equipment from laboratories in a timely fashion while noting any need for repair or replacement.
Clean lab surfaces and equipment.
Inform Senior Lab Coordinator of consumable supply needs for future labs.
Cleaning & Maintenance:
Clean scientific lab materials by hand and/or industrial dishwasher by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) with no significant etching cracks or breakage.
Clean science equipment such as hot plates microscopes water baths probes and Bunsen burners between throughout the semester.
Regularly calibrate and preform minor repairs on science equipment and instruments.
Chemicals & Biological Waste:
Handle the disposal of hazardous chemical and biological waste.
Collect chemical waste in a appropriate containers label with proper hazard classification and store in compliance with safety regulations.
Determine proper disposal by treatment reduction regular dumpster or autoclave according to SOPs.
Handle safe removal of major and minor spills and according to SOPs.
Inventory & Reporting:
Receive and inspect purchases for correctness and damage.
Update chemical inventory regularly as chemicals are used.
Update lab room inventory of lab supplies at least semesterly.
Track any repairs cleaning service and/or replacement of science equipment.
Test safety equipment at least monthly and record results physically and electronically.
Report any issues with building equipment and lab materials to the Senior Lab Coordinator and/or Facilities immediately.
Ensures compliance with department college state federal and other applicable agency policies procedures regulations and laws regarding laboratory safety such as OSHA EPA Fire Department and CDPHE.
Special Requests:
Review and support requests for changes or updates to materials and equipment.
Handle requests for special demonstrations outside of those requested in prep guides.
Consult with Lab Coordinator II for special events needs (Boy Scouts Math/Science Contest RTPI Teachers conference Open Houses Health Camp.
Campus Travel & Other Duties as Assigned:
Drive to the other campuses in Windsor Loveland and Fort Lupton to setup and teardown labs using personal and/or company vehicle.
Pick up supplies as needed from local vendors.
Contribute to a collaborative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Biology Chemistry or another related field; plus
One 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
Laboratory experience in the physical and or life sciences and experience with chemical handling.
Functional knowledge of hazardous waste disposal both chemical and biological.
Ability to work fast and accurately with minimal supervision.
Ability to be flexible and handle lastminute changes.
Ability to multitask successfully.
Ability to stand for up to four 4 hours at a time.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment for up to three hours.
Tolerate moderate levels of dust odors and chemical fumes.
Ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software.
This position requires the use of a company vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience preparing storing and disposing of inorganic and organic chemicals.
Experience working with bacterial cultures maintaining stock and preparing sterile media.
Experience creating and maintaining chemical and equipment inventories.
Experience troubleshooting/calibrating/repairing scientific instrumentation and equipment.
Ability to work with little supervision as well as to work in a team environment and problem solve.
Experience working with faculty students sales representatives staff and administrators.
Formal training in hazardous waste disposal both chemical and biological.
