Job Title:VEHICLE MECHANIC

Shift Schedule:6:00AM 2:30PM Monday through Friday. Maybe adjusted duringsummer. Overtime as required. Subject to being called 24 hours a day sevendays a week for emergencies due to inclement weather conditions. Must beavailable to be contacted after hours.

JOB SUMMARY:This position is primarily responsible for maintenance and repair of field maintenance equipment and to perform occasional field maintenance duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Performs preventative maintenance repairs replace service inspections and adjust mechanical and electrical parts on company vehicles and equipment.
  2. Requisition supplies and materials required to perform this job.
  3. Perform road service calls as necessary.
  4. Move office furniture planters etc. as directed.
  5. Assist the field maintenance crew in general repairs to facilities.
  6. Assists in preparing auction vehicles for auctions.
  7. Assist in snow removal operations.
  8. Assist all Authority personnel in training and safe operations of equipment.
  9. Inspect vehicles and related equipment to detect failed or improperly operating equipment.
  10. Perform preventive & corrective maintenance and/or replace defective parts or equipment utilizing manuals drawings specs and other written or verbal instructions.
  11. Prepare reports or daily logs as required.
  12. Performs routine maintenance such as changing oil checking batteries and lubricating equipment vehicles and machinery.
  13. Perform compliance and safety inspections on company equipment and property as required by management.
  14. Conducts daily inventory of assigned tools and equipment.
  15. Observe all established safety procedures.
  16. Perform administrative and housekeeping duties.
  17. Assist in the development of vehicle maintenance schedules and priorities.
  18. Must be able to maintain Department of Transportations CDL requirements.
  19. Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
  20. Administer and adhere to all Authority policies and guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The following generally describes the knowledge skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  1. Ability to read speak write and communicate clearly. Make calculations and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate with employees and supervisors.
  3. Ability to operate various automotive equipment mobile (heavy) equipment various shop machinery.
  4. Diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer.
  5. Troubleshoot diagnose hydraulics cooling systems exhaust brakes suspensions lights etc. on a variety of yard equipment heavy duty trucks trailers and other equipment.
  6. Ability to work inside and outside conditions and be exposed to dust fumes and gases from running engines and motors.
  7. Working on snow equipment snow brooms/snowplows and heavy equipment including hydraulics electrical.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Trade school or equivalent
  3. Associates degree in automotive Technical Industrial or Diesel preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Three to five years experience in automotive and heavy equipment mechanics.
  2. Two years experience in electronics electrical and mechanical maintenance.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. CDL Class B license required or must be able to obtain a CDL Class B license within ninety 90 days of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possess a valid drivers license and must meet NAA driving record requirements.
  2. Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:Operate various automotive equipment heavy equipment (snowplows frontend loaders etc. and various shop machinery.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated on an individual basis and depends in part on the specific requirements for the job the limitations related to disability and the ability of the hiring department to accommodate the limitation.

The employee frequently is required to bend/stoop/squat stand and walk. The employee must be able to assist in pushing and pulling planters office furniture and other heavy equipment. The employee must be able to perform extended shoveling and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Employee must demonstrate the ability to perform these essential functions during their physical examinations.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:Noise from aircraft and heavy equipment. Outdoor work required in inclement weather.

DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS: All drivers must be at least 21years of age licensed for at least 3years have the type of license required by their state for the vehicles operated and meet the following driving record standards.

Committing a Felony with a Motor Vehicle

DWI/DUI

Drug Offense

Eluding a Police Officer

Foreign citizens with no historical driving record available to us

Hit Run / Leaving the Scene of an accident

Lending an Operators License or Registration to Another

Open Container Violation

Passing a Stopped School Bus

Racing or Speed Contest Violation

Reckless Driving

Speeding 25 mph or more above speed limit

Suspended License History Drivers who have had 3 or more license suspensions as a result of moving violations

Temporary Operators Permit

Two or more at fault accident convictions

Vehicle Manslaughter/Homicide

Three or more moving violations within the past 12 months

Note: Texting or cell phone violations are considered moving violations because they increase the chance of being in an accident.
