As part of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Researchs continued commitment to building an exceptional intellectual community and advancing innovation and scientific excellence we are pleased to announce the availability of up to four tenuretrack assistant professor positions as part of the new Catalyst Faculty Cluster Program. With this cluster we are seeking to build a new crossdisciplinary team that will advance Substance Use Disorder SUD treatment from the bench to the bedside through a multipronged translational approach that leverages technological advances in neuromodulation data science and AI. The Departments of Psychiatry Health Behavior Biomedical Engineering and Neurosurgery Medicine the Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the School of Data Science and Society and partners in the Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies and the Renaissance Computing Institute seek to hire one individual in each of the following research areas: neuroengineering biomolecular data science and drug discovery clinicaltranslational psychiatry and health behavior. Candidates with relevant backgrounds and expertise in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply: * Neuroengineering: Expertise in biomedical neuroscience and neuroengineering with interests in data collection from the brain analysis of neurological data and approaches to modulate the brain function or interface with the brain. Interest in applying tools and analysis to SUD as well as other neurological conditions and pathologies. Background in biomedical engineering neuroscience neurosurgery or a related field. * Biomolecular data science and drug discovery: Expertise to help ingest curate and procure multiscale data to identify and develop new pharmacotherapies for SUD . Background in biological or chemical domains with strong core expertise in machine learning and AI. * Clinician Scientist: Expertise to develop and maintain a clinical research program related to alcohol and/or substance abuse and dependence that bridges basic science and clinical addiction medicine leading to innovative approaches in the care of patients with SUD . Background in psychiatry. * Health behavior: Expertise in implementation science interventions and communityengaged scholarship translating discoveries into communitybased programs and evidencebased policies at the local state or national level especially related to alcohol and/or substance abuse (e.g. opioids). Background in public health and health behavior. Each candidate hired will have their home in one or more of the participating departments listed above. Candidates will be expected to build an extramurally funded research program and contribute to department and University service teaching and clinical service (if applicable) according to relevant departmental expectations. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated expertise in these areas upon application (see Special Instructions for Applicants on the additional documents required for each position).
