Job Description

Position Summary
An Environmental and Science Communication postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health under the direction of Dr. Jessica Eise. This is a schoolfunded position for two years. The position includes benefits and compensation congruent with NIH stipend levels. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis but applications received by 31 January 2025 will be given full consideration and the search will remain open until suitable candidate is found. The anticipated start date is 1 September 2025. The postdoctoral fellow will join Dr. Eise in Bloomington Indiana to work on a unique set of projects combining social scientific research and applied research to study how humans and society interrelate with the environment and how we can improve climate change adaptation and mitigation. Examples of projects the fellow may work on include: 1. How indigenous or marginalized agricultural communities communicate their experiences with climate change and the socioeconomic factors that constrain or enable adaptation building a tailored solution 2. How spiritual moral and/or ethical frames influence willingness to take action on climate change in the general population generating outreach on findings 3. The sociocultural factors affecting adaptation of an infant cooling system to decrease infant mortality under climate change promoting its use in different cultural contexts 4. How film messages influence mental models of climate change managing an international film festival The primary goal of these projects is to understand human and societal responses to and impacts of environmental challenges and to craft solutions that can be immediately applied to identified challenges. The ultimate goal of the work is to improve human and environmental wellbeing. Institutional Environment Located on the flagship campus of the Indiana University System IU School of Public HealthBloomington has over 200 faculty in five departments. Indiana University is classified as an R1Highest Research Activity university is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities AAU and boasts numerous resources. IU School of Public HealthBloomington combines aspects of a traditional university campus with a strong teaching focus and the research infrastructure of a researchintensive institution.
