LEX PRODUCTS JOB POSTING
Sheet Metal Production Supervisor East
Summary: Thie Sheet Metal Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily production work and supervising direct and indirect labor employees. This position ensures shop floor employees work in adherence to all Lex policies and that productivity and efficiency targets are routinely met. The Production Supervisor also helps hire and train employees while assisting with the correction of employee issues attendance problems and work behaviors within their Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Promote implement and enforce safe work practices. Ensure employees adhere to safety attendance and behavior policies.
  • Communicate daily production goals with employees and utilize resources in such a way as to meet and exceed Lexs on time delivery rates and product quality measures.
  • Assign work to employees and flex employees as needed to ensure daily targets are met.
  • Actively participate in daily production meetings.
  • Schedule employee overtime as needed to meet and exceed daily production targets and work in concert with managers to ensure overtime hours remain at or below target levels.
  • Team with company Managers and Production Coordinators to drive projects which improve overall productivity and efficiency.
  • Help integrate the use of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools and other ways to reduce inefficiency
  • Ensure that products are built to engineering drawing specifications.
  • Works with purchasing department to ensure that there is no deficit in required material for production.
  • Layout work centers and material flow for maximum velocity emphasizing value adding activities and vigorously pursuing the elimination of waste.
  • Supervise operators of stamping machines laser cutting bending welding deburring machining surface grinding stud press and painting equipment.
  • Train personnel on correct fabrication procedures and establish systems that ensure quality during the production process.
  • Facilitate first article documentation.
  • Identify areas for manufacturing improvements and manage projects to implement new techniques and/or equipment that increase efficiency and quality.
  • Control the flow of production to ensure jobs are completed in advance of their requirements for final assembly.
  • Ensure staff is allocating and documenting production time to their specific job orders.
  • Improve routing time and bill of material accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently or as collaboration team
  • Interview and assist in the selection of applicants for departments open positions. Participate in onboarding and training of these new employees.
  • Complete and review job orders for variance in material labor and overhead before closing them. Report errors in standards when found.
  • Maintain labor efficiency safety and attendance metrics and reports. Input daily and weekly production data as needed into various files or databases
  • Approve time entries in Time and Attendance system and ensure employees are accurately entering data into the labor tracking system.
  • Maintain time and attendance records for shop floor employees. Approve timeoff requests and attendance in accordance with policy.
  • Regularly review productivity reports followup on variances and implement actions to drive improvement.
  • Provide daily/weekly update reports as needed on overall output.
  • Monitor metrics as needed to improve efficiencies quality and delivery times.
  • Perform annual and merit reviews for employees under charge for the purposes of attracting maintaining and encouraging employees to meet and exceed expectations
  • Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required but do not constitute the complete list of everything that may help one be successful in this role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in supervising a sheet metal manufacturing environment with demonstrated lean principle applications in leu of a Bachelors degree.
  • 4 Year related college degree mechanical electrical or industrial engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Hands on employee management experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles preferable.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office programs to include Word and Outlook as well as general familiarity with utilizing computers and tablets for data entry.
  • Ability to guide and motivate work teams in producing quality products within time specifications.
  • Ability to maintain data to support company production strategies and goals.
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Team player with demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience in meeting customer requests while adapting to a sudden changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to work with a high level of urgency while keeping the workforce calm and on task.
  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to read and interpret sheet metal engineering drawings and their dimensions and tolerances.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement
  • Experience with a manufacturing environment that utilizes an ERP system (M2M) to store manufacturing data; experience with technical Bills of Materials component and assembly drawings and interpreting technical documentation is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (emails RFPs reports) and the ability to effectively interact with all levels throughout the organization.
