SUMMARY
The Department of Biology and Chemistry at Washington Adventist University is seeking a qualified candidate with experience teaching undergraduate Organic Chemistry with the associated laboratory course. The lecture session typically meets three times per week 55 min each lecture) and the lab course meets once a week for three hours in the early afternoon.
Applicants submitting applications are applying for a nontenure parttime position but with significant input in course design. This appointment may be renewed upon satisfactory review and need.
Applicants who meet the required qualifications will be selected for an interview. The decisions to hire an applicant is made at the discretion of the Department.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Teach organic chemistry lectures and associated laboratory for science majors.
Teach pertinent course content using lectures demonstrations class discussion and other appropriate modes of educational delivery that promote educational and learning processes.
Prepare course outline and syllabus develop course and lesson plans and engage in the selection of textbook and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses.
Engage and assist students by providing notes timely grades and feedback via a Learning Management System (LMS).
Hold three office hours per week (negotiable).
Supervise and maintain laboratories and equipment.
Supervise lab safety during laboratory sessions preparation and cleanup.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters or Ph.D. (preferred) degree in Organic Chemistry Chemical Sciences or a related field from an accredited institution.
Familiarity with Infrared (IR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and HPLC instruments uses and application.
Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population of students both in and outside the classroom via a LMS platform.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Prior college or university teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of and commitment to the universitys philosophy and mission.
