The City of Abbotsfords Legal Services division is seeking a selfmotivated professional to join their dynamic team as a Legal Assistant for a temporary 12 month period.
In this role you will provide legal assistance to inhouse legal counsel and other City staff with daily business and longterm planning and will work on a broad range of issues that impact the municipality. Responsibilities include: overseeing the intake and response to liability claims (e.g. drafting decision letters to claimants); contract and matter management; invoice processing; drafting filing and serving court materials (e.g. judgments); preparing reviewing and distributing contracts and other legal documents; processing land title registrations and statutory declarations; and obtaining and reviewing corporate insurance and other records. You will also provide support within the Legal Services division by managing deadlines triaging requests for legal support and gathering and organizing documents. You will regularly communicate with other City staff in order to respond to liability claims and to comply with document demands and other requests for information. You will also routinely communicate with external parties including outside counsel insurance adjusters claimants and the general public.
Your organization prioritization and time management skills will make you an asset to the team. This is an ideal role for a civicallyminded legal assistant who would like to work on exciting satisfying and unique projects across a range of different practice areas in an established legal department with excellent internal and external support.
Qualifications Required:
This position is unionized CUPE Local 774 and the hourly rate of pay is from $35.30to $41.53.
