Job Description
Position Summary
This position is a primary staff position in the Sports Medicine section of the Campus Health Service. The Athletic Trainer is expected to provide athletic training services for all students but will primarily work with a UNC athletic team(s). This position will be responsible for assessment of injuries and proper treatment and referral. The athletic trainer will need to be trained in emergency care and be able to respond and make decisions following emergency action plans. The athletic trainer will participate actively in the teaching activities of the Sports Medicine Section including graduate and undergraduate programs for Athletic Training Students in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. In addition the Athletic Trainer will participate in the clinical instruction of the many health care professionalsintraining Residents and medical students on the Sports Medicine Service and other allied health student that are involved in affiliations with the Sports Medicine Program. Where appropriate they will participate in the research activities carried out by the Sports Medicine Program. Campus Health (CH) is a multispecialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually CH has more than 80000 patient encounters which includes Primary Care and Womens Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine orthopedics gynecology physical therapy counseling and psychological services travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 85 PM. Onsite ancillary services include pharmacy OTC pharmacy Student Stores pharmacy medical laboratory and radiology. Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care. Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy. Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education Medicine Nursing Pharmacy Social Work and Public Health Department of Medical Technology Physical Therapy Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Relevant postBaccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions will accept a relevant Bachelors degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution Experience in Athletic Training. North Carolina Athletic Training License. Professional CPR certification. Ability to develop and prepare emergency action plans. Athletic Trainer is bound by the Athletic Trainer Licensure Act (G.S..
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Advanced Masters Degree or Advanced training at the Collegiate level Minimum of 3 years experience as an Athletic Trainer at the Division 1A college level Additional certifications and skill are desirable in soft tissue modalities dry needling graston technique and/or blood flow restriction
