General Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse I works as a team member with other ancillary personnel under the direction of the registered professional nurse to meet technical care needs for a specified population of patients.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner in accordance with the mission values and behaviors of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care service and kindness toward all patients staff physicians volunteers and guests.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Delivers patientcentered nursing care in accordance with standards of care defined by Insight
- Applies excellent telephonic customer service skills
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice and education
- Ensures proper utilization of hospital resources and level of care
- Assesses relevant clinical and agerelated information (all ages) to assist in timely appropriate bed assignments
- Intervenes to resolve system problems that delay delivery of patient care
- Considers safety and cost effectiveness when delivering patient care
- Decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner
- Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department
- Establishes and maintains effective and respectful communication in development of all collaborative relationships
- Evaluates and participates in opportunities for outstanding service to all customers and accepts responsibility in partnership that is equally respectful to everyone
- Ability to utilize critical thinking and problemsolving skills to identify interpret and access appropriate resources in patient specific scenario(s)
- Integrates results of performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes utilization of hospital resources and length of stay
- Coordinates special bed requests
- Collaborate with physicians and other hospital personnel as necessary to provide quality patient care & expedite throughput
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities: - Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required
- Current LPN license as a practical nurse in the State of Illinois required
- Current ACLS and Basic Life Support certifications
- Ability to quickly recognize changes in condition and needs of patients
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties
