Job Description

Job Title: Vocational Teacher Carpentry/Woodworking Location: Topsfield Vocational Academy (TVA)Job Type: FullTime Reference # TVA2025BSalary: Competitive based on experience and qualificationsApplication Deadline: Apr 1 2025Job Summary:Topsfield Vocational Academy is seeking a compassionate and skilled Vocational Teacher Carpentry/Woodworking to educate and inspire students with social and emotional challenges in the art and science of carpentry. The ideal candidate will have handson experience in woodworking construction and carpentry along with the ability to create a supportive and adaptive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of students facing social and emotional difficulties.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to students with social and emotional challenges.Provide instruction in the content in accordance with the Massachusetts VocationalTechnical Frameworks in the specified career area.Enforce all OSHA safety regulations within the career education setting.Instruct students in the field when participating in outside projects.Document student performance student behavior and student achievement within the career education setting.Provide review and reinforcement of new concepts; support students in the completion of their assigned tasks.Demonstrate knowledge of students IEPs as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success; modify assignments tests and quizzes in collaboration with special education teachers if required.Teach students fundamental and advanced woodworking techniques including measuring cutting joining finishing and safety procedures with a focus on individualized learning.Provide handson instruction in the proper use of tools equipment and materials while promoting patience and selfconfidence.Ensure students follow proper safety protocols and OSHA guidelines with an emphasis on structured routines and clear expectations.Assess and evaluate student progress through projects tests and skill demonstrations incorporating strengthsbased feedback.Maintain and oversee workshop tools machinery and supplies with a focus on accessibility and safety.Foster a positive structured and inclusive learning environment that provides emotional and behavioral support.Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team.Qualifications:Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or higher in Carpentry Construction Technology Special Education or a related field preferred. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in carpentry woodworking or construction. Experience working with students with social and emotional challenges is strongly preferred.Certifications: Possession of a Preliminary or Professional Vocational Technical License in Cabinet Making or Carpentry or a Construction Craft Laborer License.OSHA certification preferred. Training in traumainformed care or special education strategies is a plus.Skills: Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques safety regulations and industry standards. Excellent communication organizational and instructional skills with a focus on patience empathy and adaptability.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with modern woodworking tools.Knowledge of traumainformed teaching practices and behavior management strategies.Ability to work with diverse student populations and modify teaching methods to meet individual needs.Experience mentoring students or apprentices in a handson structured learning environment.How to Apply:Interested candidates should submit their resume cover letter and a list of professional references to Nancy Celli HR Director at Education Consortium is an equalopportunity employer.
