Position Overview
Novelis Guthrie KY is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the team in our newest Automotive CastingRecycle Center plant in Guthrie KY. The Automation Engineer is responsible for managing systems in the areas of automation and computer systems to contribute to the achievement of the Manufacturing Units safety quality and cost objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of plant MES system and manufacturing process automation systems.
- Plant and process database management.
- Manage scripting interfaces and messaging between MES and subsystems.
- Maintenance of an automation cluster and application including server storage and virtual environment.
- Maintain backup strategy of all automation devices for data recovery.
- Participate in the deployment of O.S. and specific application update on all automation devices.
- Support IT with firewall rules implementation.
- Application of innovative technology and techniques to resolve complex engineering problems.
- Performs special study programs involving technical data of a complex nature.
- Support manufacturing by working closely with the Operations Engineering and Process Groups
- Work closely with all suppliers to ensure they follow Novelis network security requirements while accessing automation systems.
- Set up and maintain work procedures and solving processes for automation systems.
- Provide operator engineers and maintenance training programs.
- Must be willing to keep current with the everchanging technology balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control process automation and process management systems and methods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in electrical/computer engineering computer science or in engineering field relevant to automation applications or networking.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work in a fastpaced manufacturing team environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with SQL programming and relational databases (MS SQL Server TSQL preferred)
- Experience with objectoriented programming languages and scripting (C# preferred).
- Experience with application messaging (MSMQ preferred).
- Experience with web development (RESTful APIs Angular NodeJS preferred).
- Experience in multithreaded applications development.
- Experience with version control (Git preferred) and DevOps (Azure DevOps preferred).
- Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration including user management (AD).
- Experience with network management (Cisco preferred).
- Experience with virtualization (VMware vSphere preferred).
- Experience with OPC (Kepware preferred).
- Experience in building client/server applications HMI/SCADA systems (WinCC preferred).
- Experience in PLC systems such as Allen Bradly Studio 5000.

Location Profile
Novelis Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the citys renewal efforts. The Guthrie team enjoys partnerships with Hopkinsville Community College Todd County High School Guthrie Fire Department and several local Rotary Clubs.
