DescriptionPittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Custodian in the Housing Maintenance department. The primary function of the Custodian is to clean and sanitize the Residence Halls.
Duties and Responsibilities
40 Clean bathrooms
- Daily cleaning of bathrooms lavatories stools urinals mirrors floors counters as well as all other surfaces related to the bathrooms.
- Disinfect showers tubs and shower curtains daily with deep cleaning weekly.
- Clean and fill soap dishes and dispensers daily.
- Clean hand dryers daily.
- Sweep scrub and disinfect floors daily.
- Clean restroom walls daily and deep cleaned once each week or as needed.
- Empty trash and sanitary napkin disposal containers and replace liners daily.
- Replenish toilet tissue daily.
- Clean doors stalls to include handles and brass or other faceplates.
30 Clean public areas
- Daily cleaning of all public areas in the housing facilities in which custodial specialist is working including the lounge(s) office area lounge kitchen recreation areas study rooms meeting rooms public restrooms hallways laundry rooms and other public areas as specified in facilities.
- Vacuum rug daily and spot cleaned as needed. Other floor surfaces are cleaned daily; mopped swept daily.
- Clean windows as needed.
- Dust and polish furniture; clean kitchen area daily including the stove microwave sinks and floors.
- Empty and clean wastebaskets daily; clean and disinfect drinking fountain daily.
- Remove black marks from floors and walls daily; damp mop or vacuum office area and entrance to lounge as needed.
- Clean laundry room including washers and dryers inside and out. Clean dryer filters.
- Clean basement and recreation areas kitchens and utility rooms including keeping supplies neat and well stocked.
- Keep storage areas neat and clean. Keep mops brooms dustpans etc. in areas for students to use as needed.
- Dust mop or vacuum halls daily spot clean hallway and lounge carpet; damp mop spills wax floors as needed shampoo carpets as needed; clean drinking fountains and telephone area.
- Spot clean walls clean doors and door glass.
- Strip and wax floors as needed in any area.
- Turn in work orders for maintenance daily; report damages to Area Coordinators supervisor and complete incident reports.
- Clean interior and exterior stairs stairwells patios or breezeways which are swept or dust mopped daily and wetmopped at least once each week or more often if needed.
- Vacuum walk off mats at entrances.
- Spot clean stairway walls. Stair or breezeways handrails and windowsills are dusted daily.
- Clean windows on stairs patios washed as needed.
- Clean area outside of entrance include cleaning outdoor mats porch area cigarette pits trash from entrance clean outside doors.
- Maintain outside areas to sidewalks in all seasons including cleaning snow and ice from these areas
15 Clean student rooms/apartments
- Clean student rooms and apartments throughout the year. This includes cleaning all surfaces in the rooms or apartments; floors walls furniture closets blinds windows screens etc.
- At the close of each semester assists with the cleaning of all buildings student rooms and apartments.
- Responsible for moving furniture and setting up rooms to appropriate layouts and specifications. Recognize the importance of security of equipment and supplies keys and personal possessions of students when working in student space.
- Wash and dry University Housing linens and bath items.
- Clean the family student apartments throughout the year. This is a thorough general cleaning. Everything in the apartment is cleaned including walls (clean and remove tape etc. floors blinds kitchen and bathrooms.
- During the summer clean student rooms apartments and work to have the entire buildings cleaned and ready for the fall semester.
- Thoroughly clean student rooms and apartments to include windows cabinets drawers mattresses springs furniture and stripping scrubbing and waxing of floors.
- Responsible for timely cleaning of the halls for the school year summer camps and meeting the needs of the requests.
- Clean all on campus housing facilities as assigned including summer camp locations Willard Crimson Commons and Crimson Village apartments and others as assigned.
- Be aware that bathroom work in Crimson Commons Willard Crimson Village or other housing areas may have different routines for cleaning bathroom facilities.
- Follow cleaning schedule for each apartment and/or clean bathrooms and kitchen areas to the above specifications as specified in routine schedule.
15 Inventory/Other Duties As Assigned
- Ensure proper cleaning supplies are on hand; maintain custodial closets for building supplies; keep storage areas clean of unneeded items.
- Handle cleaning supplies in safe manner; attend training sessions and meetings as requested; report incidents or damages to appropriate personnel.
- Be willing to work overtime in case of emergencies or get called back in.
- Do other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience at Hire
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of related experience
Preferred Education and Experience
Screening Services (Background Checks): Employment with Pittsburg State University is contingent onsatisfactory criminal and sex offender background checks.
Salary: Grade 2 $11.98per hour
