ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Manager is responsible for functioning as a member of the Project Management team ensuring the success of all initiatives within SOCANs Project Portfolio. This responsibility includes managing project planning and as well as ensuring that projects are consistently executed according to the SOCAN Project Management Framework. The Project Manager will also advance best practices and tool adoption for the Project Management Team to achieve improvements in overall service levels. This includes identifying and implementing team process improvements championing clear communication to the organization and assisting and advising the rest of the team to ensure consistency.
WHAT YOULL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to improvement of current processes like Budgeting and Forecasting Project Onboarding etc. and identify opportunities for and define new processes to help SOCAN better achieve its goals
- Consistently apply Project Management best practices policies and procedures to all projects according to
the SOCAN Project Management Framework
- Anticipate monitor and resolve project issues risks and disputes. Exercise initiative to solve problems and exercise judgment to leverage escalation channels where required
- Ensure project teams are trained and coached with respect to SOCANs Project Management Framework and support the team of Project Managers using coaching and mentoring to effectively apply PM best practices to SOCANs environment
- Monitor and report project progress to Sponsors and other Stakeholders
- Act as the projects liaison for Portfolio Management activities
- Other adhoc analysis report preparation and duties as required
WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from PMI preferred
- Related postsecondary computer science or business degree preferred
- Agile / Scrum certification is an asset
- >10 years of progressive experience managing large system implementation projects with project budgets exceeding $1MCdn/ > 20 project team members in a technical or business environment
- >5 years progressive experience managing projects with project budgets exceeding $1MCdn/ > 20 project team members in a technical or business environment
- Portfolio and Program Management knowledge coupled with experience leading multiple concurrent projects or project phases
- Superior understanding of System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with particular focus on Quality Assurance
- Advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products Word Excel Power Point Visio Project PowerBI SharePoint
- Previous leadership experience outside of project management (either functional or technical) and experience mentoring and coaching teams and peers
- Demonstrated team building skills with a proven ability to work independently
- Strong experience with contract development negotiation and ongoing vendor management
- Strong Risk Analysis management knowledge and experience
- Strong estimation planning and decision analysis skills
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills both written and oral
