Introduction

The Maryland School for theDeaf (MSD) is seekingstaff Interpreters to provide direct interpretingservices to students families employees school resource officer andvisitors in varying situations in American Sign Language (ASL)/English.

This is a 12monthparttime position therefore the salary range will be prorated to $25282.50 $40442.00.

Main Purpose of Job

The Staff Interpreter will provide interpreting services while working with the school resource officer (SRO) staff and students at the MSD campus and during school activities/events. The Staff Interpreter may also be assigned to other miscellaneous interpreting related assignments.

POSITION DUTIES

Facilitate communication by interpreting from Sign toVoice and/or from Voice to Sign in a variety of settings (classroomadministrative social) by conveying the content and spirit of the speakerusing the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit human service or faithbased organization.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitutecourses from an accredited college or university on a yearforyear basis for up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a noncommissioned officer in interpreter/translator classification or interpreter/translatorspecialty codes in theforeign affairs field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a postsecondary degree program in InterpreterPreparation/Training. Interpreting certification granted by a nationalcertifying board (RID or NAD).A copy of your current certificatemust be attached to your application.Working knowledge of theRegistry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
