Job Description

Description

The San Diego Unified School District currently has a full time (40 hours per week) Translator-Interpreter (English/Spanish)position available. NOTE: This recruitment will be used to establish an Eligibility List for the current Translator-Interpretervacancy as well as any future vacancies.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Translate and produce a variety of general technical legal and medical documents materials and script between English and designated language for schools and district office staff; provide simultaneous interpretations during formal presentations at schools and district meeting sites using district interpretation equipment.

Schedule (for any future vacancies):

  • Positions are typically 30 or 40 hours per week and may work 10 11 or 12 months.
  • Positions greater than 20 hours per week qualify for District Paid health and wellness benefits for employees and dependents.
This is apromotional/open opportunity which means that current monthly-salaried employees receive precedence over other candidates on the eligible list.
  • For a promotional/open posting the top ten internal applicants will be provided unless there is an insufficient number and then the list will be supplemented with the top external applicants to make up the ten (Employment Regulations for the Classified Service of the San Diego Unified School District: Article 2 Section 9).

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training experience and/or education equivalent to completion of college-level courses in the designated foreign language and one year of increasingly responsible experience in translating written documents and providing oral interpretation preferably in a school environment.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
Includes an application screening and evaluation based on the candidates education work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Only candidates whose application packet demonstrates a combined education and experience which meets the minimum requirements for the position will be considered qualified and advance in the process. Some positions require candidates to pass additional components which may include one or more of the following; a multiple-choice oral written or performance exam specific to the position. NOTE: Most exams(s) are conducted remotely utilizing an online testing platform. For these exams access to the internet and the use of a camera-ready desktop/laptop with a microphone is required to participate in these processes.
