Senior Accountant

About the Opportunity
Our client is a dynamic and growing commercial real estate capital provider with a diverse portfolio of mortgage investments across all asset classes in Canada. Their equity platform focuses on highimpact investments in groundup developments and valueadd projects across Canada and the U.S.
They are currently seeking a detailoriented entrepreneurial Senior Accountant to take ownership of the corporate accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting to the Director of Finance this role will be instrumental in supporting both the Canadian commercial lending operations and U.S.based equity investment initiatives.
This is a fulltime inoffice opportunity based in Toronto Montreal or Calgary.
What You ll Do
As a Senior Accountant you ll play a key role in maintaining financial clarity and precision across multiple entities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements for Canadian and U.S. entities delivering reports to senior leadership banks investors and stakeholders.
- Managing capital calls and distribution payments related to U.S. equity investments.
- Preparing annual financial statements for U.S. partnership tax filings.
- Handling GST/HST filings installment payments and supporting indirect tax projects.
- Recording banking and credit card transactions in QuickBooks (or similar).
- Performing accurate monthly bank reconciliations and journal entries including depreciation accruals and intercompany transactions.
- Conducting general ledger and intercompany reconciliations with a focus on clearing aged items.
- Collaborating with the Finance team to ensure smooth and timely month/quarterend closes.
- Supporting audit processes by compiling data and interfacing directly with external auditors.
- Monitoring debt covenants in line with financial agreements.
- Driving continuous improvement of financial processes workflows and schedules.
- Building your industry presence by engaging with real estate and finance associations or attending industry events.
Requirements
What You Bring
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting Finance Business or a related field.
- CPA designation or in the final stages of completion.
- 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and reporting.
- Familiarity with Canadian indirect tax legislation and/or U.S. partnership tax is an asset.
- Exposure to real estate financial services or private enterprises is highly valued.
- Proficient in QuickBooks (or equivalent accounting software) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word PowerPoint Outlook).
- Strong analytical organizational and problemsolving skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- A proactive mindset strong sense of integrity and teamoriented approach.
