Job Summary

Under the supervision of a physician performs professional medical work in the examination diagnosis and treatment of patients according to statutory limitations. Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. Performs testing referral to physicians as needed writes prescriptions and performs administrative procedures within the scope of expertise protocols and available equipment. May perform administrative support functions as required.

The CDU is a clinical observation unit located adjacent to the adult ED. It is a 16 bed clinical care area staffed by APPs and supervised by the Emergency Medicine physician group. The shifts are 7a7a and 7p7a. We care for a medially diverse group of patients in the CDU. A background in hospital medicine is highly recommended.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. 20
  • Completes required documentation legibly thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts case files and records. 20
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. 20
  • May be assigned to perform leadwork and/or involvement in clinical coordination health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development management planning scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. 20
  • Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information negotiate problem resolution and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 20


Education:

  • Masters Degree Required


Work Experience:


    Licenses:

    • ACLS (BLS/CPR) AHA American Heart Association Required
