Job Description
The Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures MELC in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies HLS at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a tenuretrack position focused on the contemporary Middle East and North Africa MENA region at the rank of assistant professor to begin in August 2025. We seek a scholar with research and teaching experience specialized in the contemporary MENA region and with a substantive focus in one or more of the following areas: States and societies Religion Immigration and displacement Water or fossil fuel resources Human security (civil conflict) Responsibilities will include maintaining an active research and publication agenda and teaching four courses per academic year including undergraduate lecture courses and graduate seminars. The teaching load for this position is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will contribute to MELCs longstanding tradition of offering wellsubscribed courses related to the Muslim World. The new faculty member is expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in relevant theories and methodologies and possess the potential attract significant external funding.
